Way to go Saeed Anwar!!

Hi All,

If you have been following Saeed Anwar's run of late, you would have
noticed how
he has really blossomed into a fine attacking opening batsman.

I think he and Basit Ali will be Pakistan's batting mainstays for a long
time to come.
Some people may string me up for saying this but I would much rather watch
Anwar bat than any other Pakistani batsman today.  He is amazing to watch with
superb timing and effortless grace and I would go many a mile to watch a
good innings
from him.

For those of you who haven't seen him play - you have really missed something.
Watch any of the recent Pak vs India Sharjah matches or the Pak vs W.Indies
Sharjah '93 match and you will know what I am talking about.

Incidentally in the first test against S.Lanka that started a couple of
days ago,
he scored 94 in the first innings.....!  Way to go Saeed Anwar...!!

Cheers
Harish

From whatever I saw of Anwar, I never thougth that he was a
graceful player.  I agree that he is  a good attacking opening
batsman who tends to hit the ball out of shape.  After seeing
him knock those early boundary hits in the one-dayers in a
typical style, I doubted his technical competence.  But the fact
that he is able to continue his attacking batting style to test
matches where there are a cluster of attacking fielders around,
it is safe to assume that he is fast blossoming into one of the
few players who can adapt to both the test and one-day cricket.
But his batting can never be called graceful, at best he is a
        good hitting opening batsman.

I have just seen the Pak Vs Sri Lanka test scorecard on BBC
Teletext.

Pakistan have won by 351 runs with Saeed Anwar scoring 136 in the
second innings. This does seem to drive home the point of the
previous two messages.

However, I am not sure what will happen when Saeed Anwar plays
some really top quality fast/swing bowling. I think that really
will be the test. The forthcoming AUS Vs PAk series should
provide the answer.

In any case, well played Saeed !!
Amir.

Doubt his technical correctness, but please don't make such sweeping
remarks about his "competence", unless you use the word differently
from myself.  He is one of the most competent, talented, and
productive batsmen in game today.
