India made mistake by taking three seamers

when was the last time india won a test match due to its seam bowlers?
proabably never!!!  it was a big mistake to take three seamers in T1
against england even if pitch was seamer friendly.  one or a maximum
of two would have been enough.  if sarandeep was in the team (in place
of bangar or siddiqui), england would have been out around 150!!!

Though Srinath cannot probably be called a seamer, the test in Ahmedabad
against SA a few years ago comes to mind.

How about the time when Kapil won a Test for India
Down Under in the eighties ?

My editing has been over-zealous but someone else mentioned the Test in
which Srinath took 6/21 to bowl out RSA at Ahmedabad in '96-97.

Wins at home fashioned by the seamers are hard to find. Abroad, we have the
Test you mention above (Melbourne '81), two Tests in England in 1986 (though
Maninder also picked up a few crucial wickets there), one in Zim a few
months ago, and one in SL, also recently (Harbhajan, the only spinner in the
side, took only one wicket in that Test).

At home, there was the Test against RSA, the Calcutta Test vs Aus in '98
(though this is a bit of a cheat; Srinath with 8 wickets (IIRC) was the man
of the match, but he was the only seamer! Didn't Ganguly open the bowling?),
and, before that...not sure. I must be missing several Tests along the way,
but there were a few in Kapil's young days. Madras, 1979-80 vs Pak, Madras,
1978-79 vs WI, Bombay, 1981-82 vs Eng.

Srinath took 6 wickets in that test. 3 in each innings. He was MoM. The MR
who awarded it was van der Merwe.

Yes, he did. And got the crucial wicket of Mark Taylor caught behind, too.
After having Taylor in all sorts of trouble.
