Worcestershire- oh dear oh dear

With apologies for posting a latest score- but last time I dared to
peep, Worcestershire were 67/5 against Durham after 25 overs. We MUST
win this match to qualify for the QF. Oh dear oh dear.

As we Worcester supporters seem to have a majority among County
followers on RSC- how about a collective positive think? Will the last 5
to save the day. At least Worcester bat almost all the way down, and
Sheriyar is improving.

(Goes into positive thought mode)

I was going to do this for Gloucestershire yesterday, they needed 7 to
win and a C A Walsh chappie had just walked to the wicket, Russell on
about 116no. I was going to will either Courtney to get a single to get
Russell on strike, or Courtney to hit one of his massive sixes. 3 balls
left- phone rang, and it was a friend who has a very complicated love
life. So instead of being able to send positive thoughts to Glos, i was
trying to figure out if I had heard my friend mention Harry before.

Don't anyone phone me until this match is over.........

Just as well they bat all the way down cause the first five haven't
exactly been impressive  ;-)

Ah.  The conundrum of having two counties to support.  I am historically
a Worcestershire supporter, but having spent time living in Sunderland
when Durham became first class (in one sense at least) I lean heavily
towards Durham in most circumstances.  I'm afraid I can't give you any
of my precious thinking capacity in Worcs-positive mode, but I'll be
happy whoever wins.  I don't usually have to worry about *who* will win,
just how long it will take Durham to lose.....

Oh Shit!  Spoke too soon.

Still there is always the big boys game, the Britanic Assurance County
Championship that we are destined to win.

As a Surrey supporter, I'm trying hard not to feel smug but am not quite
managing it :)

Yes, I only got in about 9 and found out the sorry news (except for
Chris who was in a no lose situation)

Still, Worcestershire types. as Mark says, we will win the championship,
and that is the one that matters, not this one day stuff.

This coming from the County who so regularly under achieves it is soon to
become an anual event, with a prize for the batsman who gave away his wicket
most times in vital situations

You'll have to get by the mighty Yorkshire juggernaut first, of course.

Ah- but we do only have to play the one Championship match against them,
and I think it is at New Road.

How about an England attack of Lampitt, Newport, Illingworth, and
Sheriyar? :)

I would love it too, but the only one I can see getting in the Test team is
Illingworth, with Sheriyar as an outside bet for the Ashes tour.

Incidentally R K Illingworth was the last England bowler to get a wicket
with his first ball in Test cricket, if Graveney hears this he is sure to be
back!

G A Hick+R A Smith for England!!

Wasn't he also the last to finish with a six being hit off his last ball ?

I think RS at no. 3 might not be a bad idea: he (along with several million other
English players down the years) has been pretty badly treated by selectors.

Hick, on the other hand, has had more chances than he deserves and must
surely (please please please) be past consideration for England now.
