Pitch invader who tackled the Pakistani player banned for life from the WACA - and rightfully so

apologies i don't have a URL, but i was just watching Channel 10 news here
in Perth and they said the offender (who is still facing *** as well as
trespass charges after being released on bail) had been _banned for life
from the WACA_.

They're also looking into increasing the fine from $500 to $10,000 for such
incidents.

A couple decades ago Terry Alderman suffered a serious injury as a result of
a pitch invader, and we all remember what happened to Monica Seles when a
crowd invader stuck a knife into her back.

Agreed, we had our famous van Zyl who tackled the rugby ref (and
injuted him).
He also got banned for life. That was worse because it was done in
temper and the ref got injured

I have always thought that the whole country's cricket/rugby board/
union should get behind it and ban the individuals from the other
grounds.

Jail is the answer. Give them 6 months or more. A drunk isn't too worried
about a life ban. Bans are hardly enforcable anyway. Change your hair style
& who'd know.

Terry Aldermann's incident was a little different.  He tackled the field
invader not the other way round - a pretty stupid thing to do and he paid a
hefty price for it.

Security can never be perfect at any event and with a decent head start it's
unfortunate that sometimes contact is made with the player before security
can intervene.  All these***heads really do is lead to the need for more
security guards and that just means higher ticket prices for everyone.

Cheers

Slap on the wrist for Perth and CA. ICC should have banned Perth for a
year
hosting ICC matches, which they would have done if it had happened in
the
sub-continent.

Yeah, because Monica Seles being stabbed is in the same ball park.

I think there's a world of difference between someone streaking, and some
***head like this tackling a player. I think $500 is more than enough for a
streaker, and yes, throw the book at the said***head.

True, but I think gouging and massive player salaries have a lot more to do
with ticket prices.

I can imagine the outrage if it had happened to an Australian player over
there. You're right.

Andrew Symonds had no worries with it ...

Obviously in retrospect it wasn't - he was just a drunken idiot, assumingly
on a dare from his equally drunken mates.

However, the fact remains that if he had wanted to injure the player with an
object such as a knife he would've been able to.

So if any person of the crowd runs out onto the field you suggest banning
that venue for a year???

Most amusing.

True, but irrelevant. There are thousands of people there, and any one of
them could be a loony. What's your point? Throwing unjustly excessive
penalties at some bird doing a nudie run (those were the days!) is not going
to prevent the malevolent ones.

http://www.tribuneindia.com/2002/20021114/sports.htm#2

"The venues which witnessed crowd trouble during the first three one-
dayers between India
and West Indies could be banned from staging any more international
matches if the safety
and security committee of the ICC, which is meeting shortly, takes a
decision to this effect.

We have asked this committee to consider appropriate enalties for
venues which
consistently fail to meet their obligations in meeting minimum
standards of security.

This is likely to include the ultimate sanction of withdrawing
international status from a
ground, combined with a heavy financial penalty, International
Cricket Council chief executive
Malcolm Speed said in a statement last night."

So, wasn't player safety concerns valid in the perth case?

GOOD

However if the security guards took less time and attention from popping
beach balls they may have caught this nutter before he got to the players
