Ganguly, a captain in the making???

Liked the way he praised his team and the players especially Kumble and
Ramesh. Didn't read Tendulkar complimenting his players this way. In
fact last time he was a captain, he said of Kumble, 'we need a spinner
who could turn the ball'.

Maybe he is great batsman but he doesn't need to relegate the rest of
the team to junk.

Ganguly warns Aussies
SYDNEY: After his side completed a convincing 93-run win in a four-day
cricket match against New South Wales, Indian stand-in skipper Saurav
Ganguly issued a warning to the Australians, saying the tourists could
be in with a chance in the coming Test series.

"We are a young side and I believe we are a very good side. We can be
in with a chance," said Ganguly, who made personal contributions of 38
and 81 in the two innings at the Sydney Cricket Ground here.

"It took us 4-5 days to get used to the conditions. Even Australia,
when they came to India in 1998, lost to Mumbai in two and a half days.
But we are now coming good," asserted Ganguly.

"We don't get these sort of wickets, light and balls and it takes some
adjusting. Hopefully, we are coming good in time for the first Test."

Ganguly made special mention of Anil Kumble, who was again the match-
winner, with a haul of eight for 88.

"He is a fantastic bowler. He has won so many matches for us in the
past seven years. He is just very good."

He also picked out batsman Sadagopan Ramesh for praise. "I have very
high regard for his talent. He has played only seven Tests and he has
scored runs in each one of them. Mind you, he has been up against good
attacks, against the likes of Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis and Shoaib
Akhtar, and done well."

But the acting captain hinted the Indian batsmen, notably the openers,
had to improve their act. "They have done well", he said, adding "but
they can do better."

Reviewing the defeat, home captain Michael Bevan said his team perhaps
batted too slowly in the morning, which yielded only 41 runs. "They
bowled well and it was not really the kind of last day wicket."

Bevan had a good word to say about opener Greg Hayne, who he said
batted well but lacked support from the other end.

Commenting on India's chances in the coming Test series, the one-day
specialist said a lot would depend on the wickets the visitors would
play on.

"If they are bouncy, Indians could be in trouble. If they are not so
bouncy, I think Indians are in with a 50-50 chance."

While praising Kumble's performance, he said the Indian batsmen too
showed a far more patient attitude in the second innings.

Complimenting the indians, he said, "they obviously are a very classy
batting side. They need watching." (PTI)

Either you haven't seen any of the post-match interviews on TV after the NZ
tests and ODI's or you are biased. SRT clearly complimented the team and
individual players and quite generously too. To complement Ganguly you don't
have to put SRT down.
