Ashes - Lord's Test Match ticket questions

Ashes - Lord's Test Match ticket questions

Post by Andrew Walk » Fri, 16 Apr 1993 15:14:58

I'm an Australian fortunate enough to be travelling through the UK in May and
June - particularly lucky being a cricket fan and this being an Ashes tour
year.

I have hopes of getting to the Lord's test match (June 17-21), as this fits
in nicely with my itinerary.  To reduce the possibility of missing out on
seeing the game, I would like to know:

   (1) Is all admission to the ground pre-sold, or are there general
admission tickets available on the day?
(In particular, I need tickets for day one.)
   (2) Is there any way I can buy tickets beforehand from Australia?
   (3) How much do tickets cost?
   (4) What are the hours of test matches in England?

Having seen reports in the local papers last week that the Lord's test is a
'sell-out' I am a little worried that it might be a case of so close yet so
far.  (I hope that a 'sell-out' is like an MCG 'sell-out' which just means
that all reserved seats are sold, but general admission is still available.)

Thanks, in anticipation of a reply - whether good or bad!

PS: Apologies if this has got out more than once; our news installation
    was not quite right...

The Lord's test is COMPLETELY sold-out, except for the sunday.
You can order your tickets in advance by calling the Lords booking office.
I got their number from my local BTA.

See above. (BTA = British Tourist Agency)

The more expensive tickets (the ones that are usually the only ones available
at latter stages of ticket selling, like NOW, are about 35 pounds for the
ODI. Dunno about test-prices, though)

11.00-17.00/18.00 in general.

Don't bother calling Lords for tickets. They were sold out on the day
the opened ticket sales to the public. You have two recourses:

1. call american express in London and see if they one-day packages.
A package usually consists of a box lunch, a few drinks and an
admission ticket. It runs about a 100 pounds. There are more expensive
packages available also (e.g., lunch with Denis Compton).

2. look for touts as you get of the underground or by Grace gates.
You should be able to get something for about 65 pounds. If it rains,
the price comes down.
