Highest average-average of victims

Which bowler has the highest average-average of victims?

It just seemed to me that Ganguly was breaking an awful lot of top-
order partnerships, so I decided to look it up, and sure enough, he
has 8 tail-ender wickets to 24 top-order wickets, with some pretty
decent batsmen in there - Kallis, Sangakkara, Jayawardene, Yousuf,
just to name the 50+ averagers, and De Silva, MWaugh, Taylor, Slater,
Thorpe, Misbah-ul-Haq, and Cook (twice) among those averaging 40+.

Only 32 test wickets, and most definitely a change bowler. But over a
third of his scalps average 40+ in tests!

Just checked for India's other change bowler, Tendulkar, who also has
a bit of a reputation as a partnership-breaker. Over a third of his
scalps also average 40+ in tests, but he has a few tail-enders also in
there, to even things out.

Interesting question. But isn't it most likely that change bowlers
will take top-order wickets if they take any wickets at all? They tend
only to be employed when the real bowlers are tired and the batsmen
are well-set, which usually means that a couple of the top six have
booked in for bed and breakfast, and they get taken off once the job
of breaking the stand has been done.

Cheers,

Mike

You will also need to take into account how many balls bowled at top
batsmen and how many to tailenders.

Worth considering Hot Pie Risk.

Has 20 victims, of which 4 (Dravid, Kallis, Lara, Tendulkar) average over
50, another four (G Kirsten, Sehwag, Trescothick, Vaughan) average over 40
and a further three were top-order batsmen of some repute who have slightly
disappointing 30-something averages (Gayle, Amla, Rudolph).  Plus two more
30+ in Flintoff and Boucher.

Unfortunately Styris rather blots his copybook by also numbering Agarkar
amongst his victims.

How do you do a "look it up"
Is there a database where all cricket statistics are readily available?
Appreciate.

Technically statsguru is not a database. It is just a web interface to
a pre-determined set of queries.
