How is one supposed to do this? It says his score is 203 but it doesnt
provide a rank.

Didn't you call the current PwC test bowling #1 a trundler?

That's as maybe.  The burning question is what Mike thinks of the bowling
merits of the #3 odi all-rounder, a fellow by the name of Chris Gayle.

No, I said he was unthreatening, which he mostly was during the series
against England. Only in one innings did he actually do serious
damage. It was Kallis I said was a trundler - and what I saw of him
was, owing to train and bus delays meaning that I missed the first
hour of the third day at Headingley when apparently bowled a lot of
booming oust***s and was distinctly dangerous.

However, the original point was that PwC, being based purely on
numbers on scorecards, ought to be of far more use to the people who
don't like cricket enough to ever watch a game but see fit to post
their numerological ramblings in a cricket duiscussion group. For the
Agarkar fans amongst them obsessed with trying to prove that he is
somehow Flintoff's equal, this was an interesting piece of evidence
that they might wish to consider. Though, to give Aggy credit, he does
have a slightly better strike rate as an odo bowler than Freddy,
although Fred's figures on every other aspect of batting or bowling
are considerably better than Raghu Jetley's fantasy pin-up, for those
who actually care about such things to the exclusion of all else.

Cheers,

Mke

To be honest, I don't. I think I've seen him bowl once in an odo, when
he appeared to be a modest tweaker. I have been mildly puzzled for
some time how his name has reached its present dizzy heights, but not
enough to actually research it in any way. Scratching the surface a
little, he seems to have made quite a splash when NZ went to the
Caribbean in June 2002, so perhaps you can enlighten me as to his
marvellous qualities.

Didn't see a ball of that series.  I do recall him bowling against NZ at the
World Cup, where Hooper used the unusual tactic of holding Gayle back until
the 40 over mark, then bowling him through to the end.  It worked up to a
point: Gayle kept things quiet for three overs, then conceded 28 runs from
his final two.  I have a vague recollection of him bowling like Hooper, only
from a greater height.

Of course my real point was meant to be "if Gayle is the third-best
allrounder in odi cricket then my backside's a fire engine", but now that I
look at the stats he has a none-too-shabby bowling record after all.  Did
well against NZ last year as you mentioned, but also against the touring
Australians this year.
