One ring to rule 'em all.

One ring to rule 'em all.

Hi,
While  my fellow arm-chair critics were busy analysing the game, I was
comparing this match to the "Lord of the Rings" and what character each
of the players would play. For the Pak fans: This is just an attempt at
humor, don't take it seriously. This could as well fit India's loss to
Pakistan in Madras during the Independence Cup

"One ring to rule 'em all"--- The myth that India cannot chase a 300+
target. (As if all the other countries are sucessful in such a
chase..Oops, I am digressing into cricket)

S.C.Ganguly-- The ring-bearer, Frodo Baggins,( MoM)

SRTendulkar: Boromir. Though he led a short life, he left a big impact.

Robin Singh: Samwise Gamgee. Was with the ring-bearer thru the hazardous
journey.

Azharuddin: Bilbo Baggins. Though he was in the good guys team, his role
was limited. Also, he set the World Record for most number of ODIs, just
like Bilbo who set the record for the oldest hobbit from Shire ( I think
Bullroarer holds the record but Bilbo calls himself the oldest ever)

Sidhu: Gimli son of Gloin. Was in the "winning team". Both of them have
a beard *LOL*

Srinath and Kanitkar- Peregrin Took(Pippin) and Meriadoc Brandybuck
(Merry) When everything else was done, they  drove the team home.

Anshuman Gaekwad- Gandalf the Gray. Coach has to be the thinkingest guy.
He also did some counselling when he got the umpires back to the field
when there were insufficient lights.

The Other Side:

Majid Khan : the Dark Lord. Perpetrator of all the evils :-). I don't
want to call Latif that, as he seems to be a pawn in this guy's hands.
(Besides, Pakistani fans will be with me on this one :-) )

Rashid Latif: Gollum. He would have really loved to have the Ring and
did possess it for sometime. But he contributed to the destruction of
the ring by his own folly (missed stumpings)

Anwar & Ijaz= Ringwraiths. Absolutely ruthless and scary. Till they were
around, there was the danger of losing.

Saqlain= Saruman. What a fall from greatness ("best offie in the world")
to receiving death blows from Merry and Pippin ( Srinath and Kanitkar)

OK, folks. Before you can say anything, I know I am making the entire
situation over-romantic and I was critical of really good players by
calling them evil. But, what the hell, this post is supposed to be silly
and taken lightly.

Cheers,
M

Hmm... I think SRT is better compared to Aragorn son of Arathorn.  After
all, he plays like a true heir to the fallen gods!

Good work otherwise :-)

Anand.

<a reasonable Lord of the Rings analogy>

In fact the true "Dark Lord" is Aravinda DeSilva.

The evil ODI is infiltrating the world of peace, light and test cricket
with the help of the dark lord. The king of the ringwraiths is Sanath
Jayasuriya.

As we all know, Sauron has had many lives and in a previous incarnation
the Dark Lord was one KFB Packer.

The Hobbits are (from where I sit) The Australians, the Elven folk are
the West Indians and the Dwarves are The English.

The South Africans are "Big Folk" (ie humans). Some are for evil,
perhaps they are for good.... Hansie Cronje seems an awful lot like
Strider to me. Although that would make him the one true King and I
don't know if I like that. cullinan must be Boromir, erratic, capable of
greatness but unreliable.

The other sub-continental teams are clearly fighting for the dark
forces, so ... (go on flame me, I like it) the Indians are goblins and
the Pakistanis are Orcs.

DGB Bradman must be Bullroarer Took. Mark Taylor is Frodo and Allan
Border is Bilbo. Bilbo picked up the One Ring - the symbol of evil and
Border won the World Cup, also the symbol of evil. Ian Healy must be
Samwise Gamgee - Frodo's faithfull servant.

Hmmm who is Gollum. He thinks only of himself he helps the forces of
darkness through his own selfishness, but pretends to help the forces of
good and light. Sounds like the entire BCCI.

Tom Bombadill, frolicking along, oblivious to changes and completely
unaffected by whatever is going on in the wider world is the Ashes
series.

I suspect that there are more analogies to be made, but it's been a
while since I read Lord of the rings and at 123 years of age, my memory
is not what it.

cheers

M::Thanx. At least the first response is not a flame :-). Well, In fact
I wanted to make him Aragorn, but the fact is Aragorn is old... and
comparing SRT to something old did not seem to go well. I chose Boromir,
because he is ambitious and he had a great "impact(on the work) to
life-time" ratio, just like SRT.
For Azza, I considered tree-beard as well, but tree-beard helped in
downing Isengard, but Azza drew a "zilch".

Harrison Ford has wrinkles on his wrikles these days. His action hero roles
are grandpas now. Just because you sat the Star Wars trilogy for the first
time last year doesn't mean that he is still 30. Oh, and just to conform to
the rules of this newsgroup and subject matter, HF knows nothing about
cricket!

Not as much a babe as Faramir, but still a babe.
I think of him as a kind of Harrison Ford type.  NOT OLD!!!!

And because he is going to die horribly?
For India's sake, I hope not.

No, you need to make the West Indies ents.  I think of Ambrose as being
Tree-Beard,mainly because of his fielding.  There goes the ball, but, I don't
bend....

Explains his height too.  Been on the entwash.
