There have been 51 centuries scored by the losing sides in the fourth
innings of a Test match. Here is a list of Test matches in which a
batsman from the losing side scored at least 125 runs in the fourth
innings. The losing margin is given at the end of the line. The
asterisk indicates the player achieved the highest score of the match.

I like this metric as it places the innings that gave birth to the
term "ran away" at #1. Incidentally, SMG's 96 at Bangalore in his last
innings would fall between #1 and #2 on this list. India lost that
test by 16 runs, giving it a ratio of 0.167. SMG was deemed not to
have "run away" as he was out to a defensive stroke, as opposed to a
"blind ghumao" ((c) Shantanu) shot.

And of course, the trivial fact that Gavaskar
was caught off his boot, not his bat. Other than that,
yes, Gavaskar ran away.

So Gavaskar and indeed Sangakkara belong in a slightly different category:
perhaps they could be said to have walked (or been dragged) away.

Was it RB Gupta or VK Ramaswamy who gave him out?
