India is to host a six nation tourney in November this year, on the occassion
of the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations of the CAB(Cricket Association of Bengal).
According to Mr. Jagmohan Dalmiya, President, CAB, the six teams to take
part, include the reigning World Champions Pakistan, West Indies, Sri Lanka,
South Africa, Zimbabwe and the hosts India.
The inaugral match is to be played between hosts India and Sri Lanka
on Nov 7th at Kanpur and the final will be held at the Eden Gardens(Calcutta)
on Nov 27th.
The one day tournament of 50 overs a side , will be staged on a round-robin
basis. There will be 15 preliminary round robin matches to identify the
semi-finalists viz., the top four placed teams. The first semi-final will be
between the 2nd and 3rd placed teams and the second semi-final between the
first and the fourth. The semi-finals and the final are to be held at the
Eden Gardens, Calcutta.
The total prize money for this tournament is approximately $65,000(US).
The winners will receive $25000, the runners-up $15000, MOM $1000 and
man of the series $5000.
This is only the second occasion, in the international cricket history, that
such a tournament is being staged, the earlier one being in 1985 in
Australia to celebrate the 150th anniversary of VCA (Victoria Cricket
Association).

In the event of any of the semi-finals being washed out, it will be
replayed (on Nov 26th 1993).
*** Patna and Vijayawada are tenatative venues, awaiting confirmation from
the participating teams.
Patna has been awarded in lieu of Jamshedpur, the request coming from
BCA(Bihar Cricket Association). It may be recalled that boisterous crowds
interrupted the 4th ODI played between Eng/Ind at Jamshedpur on March 1st 1993.
