Saeed Anwar's knock is not better than Richard or Kapil's

Post by Vicky B. Vigneswar » Thu, 29 May 1997 04:00:00

: Saeed Anwar made 194 with the help from runner (it seems that he was
: able to run back after drinks but didn't want to run on the pitch.  Even
: Turner commented about it on TV).  Kapil (175), Richard (189) did
: without asking for help from Runner.

For the starters, this Vicky has nothing to do with the above posting.
(Someone already asked me about it in IRC)

Well, after I sent this post, I reaslized that cheating is order of the
day for Pakistani players - so it shouldn't come as surprise after all!

May be that was the reason why Pakistan got trashed so badly against SL
;-)

What junk is this ? Try to give credit to the Pakistan which played
with 2nd string bowling side.

What ***is this?

Did I say Pakistan didn't deserve to win?  And do you think Indian
bowling side was 1st string (without Srinath and the long tour of SA and
WI) ?  I didn't say that Anwar didn't play good - he did but his knock
can not be considered better than Kapil's 175 and Richard's 189.

It is obvious that Saeed Anwar cheated - many people are saying this
(including NZ commentator Turner).  Ask him to make 194 without taking
the help from runner.  You don't need to be a rocket scientist to
understand this, do you?

He did not cheat.  According to the rules of cricket, he was allowed a runner
as long as the opposing captain consented to it.  Tendulkar allowed him to have a
runner thus Anwar did not cheat.  Anwar's innings in the heat at Chennai could be
considered the ODI equivalent of Dean Jones performance in a Test against India.

Anwar did have cramps during the innings, and in recent times he has been plagued by
injuries.  There is no telling how many runs this wonderfully gifted batsman would
have accumulated in the last year or so if it were not for his injuries.

Furthermore when Anwar got out, Pakistan had made 297.  Thus he had made two-thirds
of his teams total at that point.  Astounding!

Even if he had no runner and he had made 194, it shouldn't be considered as
great as Kapil's or Richards'. They hit it in the days when the fielding
restrictions weren't so heavily biased in favour of the batsmen. The same
Jayasuriya played then too and he had an average of around 15.
