An Aussie leg spinner say Murali is no more chucker than Shane Warne

Writing to The Australian newspaper he has stated this on 23rd January
Issue.

 "Lay off Murali"
The media and former umpires should lay off Muttiah Muralitharan who is a
champion
cricketer and by all reports a champion bloke. As a former leg spinner (of
very modest attainment) I say Murali is no more a chucker than Shane Warne.
Warne also straightens his wrist at delivery-the only difference is that the
flicking action occurs over the wrist rather than below it. - John
Kotsopoulus, North Balwyn, Victoria

Well this *certainly* puts a new light on the question.

WTF is John Kotsopoulus?

Is he the leg spinner for the South melbourne Hellas?

Apparently he is a leg-spinner of some renown. His cricket
profile is listed here;

He is the former pitcher of Athens Tigers of GBL (Greek Baseball League) who
had to leave baseball because of his inability to bend the arm fully while
pitching because of a deformity in his pitching hand.  Accused of bowling by
the followers of TBL (Turkish Baseball League) during the final game of the
Mediterranean Series between Athens and Ankara, he underwent a series of
tests at the University of Helsinki which proved conclusively that he did
not bowl.  However, hounded mercilessly by the Turkish fans whenever his
Athens team toured Turkey, he decided to retire from Baseball and now is
living in Australia as a fully paid defender of all falsely accused athletes
and a champion bagpipe player.

why TF is his opinion any less than yours or mine or anyone else's?

It would have helped DH's credibilty had he only called murali when he
bowled off-spin. The moment he called murali when murali attempted a
couple of leg spinners, DH sort of stood exposed. I remember seeing
murali indicate to ranatunga that he bowled leg spin on a couple of
balls that DH signalled illegal and it was clearly  visible that it was
so on the replays.

I dont remember what match it was but it was a one-day during 95-96 WSC.

Speaking of credibility, perhaps you can tell us more about
this occasion when DH called Murali while Murali was bowling
leg-spin?

Well I guess John's opinion is as worthy as any other  RSCer's, but it
does seem to me that it's hard to straigthen the wrist BELOW the
wrist.

In fact, if he's straightening BELOW the wrist then what Mr
Kotsopoulus has described is surely a throw?

Well you just shot down your credibility didn't you? DH never called Murali
during the 95-96 ODI series. He only ever called him during the Boxing Day
test.

I think Mr Kotsopoulus needs to study the rule book to understand that
throwing has nothing to do with one's wrist but rather with their elbow.

mea culpa... might have been emerson. But i still remember watching
murali being noballed for a leg spinner. It was a WSC match, possibly
versus Aus, during 95-96.

Also my original point was that colin could have attacked John
Kotsopoulus's point instead of saying WTF is he... what does it matter
WTF he is.

Does anyone have video of this game or is it possible to get it
somewhere? Should be interesting watching.

LOL, I saw this thread and assumed Jenner or O"Keefe had written
something but to see some nobody quoted is laughable in the extreme. I
bowl off spin, can I be quoted as thinking Murali chucks.
