Holding is still holding back........
Congratulations to Muttiah Muralitharan and Marvan Atapattu for having
clinched the CEAT International Cricketer 2000/2001 and CEAT International
Batsman 2000/2001 awards, respectively. Indications are that Muralitharan
may repeat his performance for the season 2001/2002, and boy, wouldn't that
make Bishen Bedi's beard bristle,? By the way, thanks but no thanks, Michael
Holding for having stated that he was merely misquoted by the reporter of
the magazine about his famous remark on Muralitharan's bowling action. If
only Holding added: "I do not believe there is any doubt about the legality
of Muralitharan's bowling action" would have cleared the air once and for
all. I wonder why he did not.............
....for reasons best known to him.
Housewives, taxi-drivers, and indeed current or former Test cricketers are
entitled to their opinion on Muralitharan's bowling but when a member of the
ICC committee specifically appointed to probe such matters, makes public his
opinion then it is time corrective action is called for and I am glad the SL
Board did just that, though I feel Holding merely made a cushioned statement
and did not retract. Maybe he cannot for reasons best known to him. Hidden
agendas?
