Warne vs Mushtaq (and the pitches)

Post by Bruce Klett » Fri, 13 Mar 1998 04:00:00

The theory that I have been trying to back up, is that the top spinners
notably Warne and Mushtaq are better strike bowlers on greentops
than they are on slow turning wickets.

Could those of you who know these wickets please comment.

Hobart, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Rawalpindi, Lahore, The Oval,
Penshawar, Christchurch

Certainly Kingsmead is considered a seamers wicket.

Another interesting trend that emergers is that although Warne seems to
lead ito
one or two wickets in his best performances, Mushtaq is certainly a
better
journeyman.

With thanks to John and others for the stats

Warne vs Mushtaq (and the pitches)

Top bowlers, spinners or not, should take wickets anywhere, on any type of
wicket, greentops, browntops, dustbasins, anything.

This is why Marshall and Walsh (eg) are GREAT bowlers. They have taken
wickets all over the world, on all types of pitches and in under all types
of CIRCUMSTANCES.

This is also why Warne is a great bowler(IMO).
