++++++++
Please understand. I'm from a middle-class Maharashtrian family. I
have a salaried job, earned on merit, with Bharat Petroleum, where can
I get 20 lakh from? I've been playing cricket for 10 years and despite
my 24 hundreds, I've never really caught the selectors' eyes.

Why should I do this? Main to soch bhi nahin sakta tha ki yeh mere
saath hoga. Main kya bolu? Did you know that last season itself, I had
five hundreds and was out thrice in the nineties? I was second in the
Samsung domestic cricket ratings. I don't need to prove anything to
anyone, my statistics speak for themselves.

What do your teammates say?

I don't think they know anything, we've been travelling. No one has
said anything to me yet. But ask them, ask anyone, other players what
sort of person I am? They'll all vouch for me, for my character.

Actually this goes against him. Not sure why he is telling this
everytime in this context.

I agree that he should keep his mouth shut because he may not be the best
person to give out such statements to the press.

But dude, the guy's career is being destroyed.  And this is before *any*
evidence has been presented.  People react in different ways when accused of
things (whether they did commit the act or not).  Maybe he is outraged that
he is being accused of trying to bribe someone.  Maybe he is insinuating
that the selectors have some vendetta against him, and this is not the first
time they have messed with him.

C'mon.  10 lakh for a 75,000 payday?

If these charges are not proven, I hope that he goes after Roy and More,
suing them for defamation.  But only after he gets done with the cricketing
official who recklessly made this public prior to any investigation.

I am curious as to how More and Roy can be sure that it was Kale.

50,000 Rupees is approximately 1,000 US dollars
10 lakhs = 1 million Rupees = 20,000 US dollars

Exactly Mr press secretary.

That will have a negative effect. No one will open their mouth
unless they have clear cut proof to back. Water tight proof
is hard in Indian context.

They can't be sure. They haven't said so yet. But they still have
to bring it up if there is any truth in their claim that someone
calling himself as Kale offered bribe over the phone.

However, BCCI has handled the issue in a very clumsy manner.
If they didn't want to divulge the name of the guy until a certain
date, why the hell did they come up with "some m'rashtra cricketer
offered so much to 2 unnamed selectors". They must have waited until the right time and come up with
the whole truth. How
come press knew the names within 15-20 minutes(going
by Shridhar's posts). This whole thing seems stage managed.
Come up with a vague story, leak the names to the press and let
the media conduct a trial. After promptly leaking the news to the press, these fellows act very
responsibly and say they won't name
the persons involved etc. Kale might well be guitly of wrong doing.
I don't rule out anyone doing a stupid thing. But, what the
BCCI has done  doesn't seem to be fair. And our press is
pathetic. If the guy says "guilty will be punished", they translate
it to "Kale will be punished if found guilty".

Agreed. Just I wish he doesn't tell anything which can bring him
down.

I don't know if that was anything intentional by the selectors too.
Any more info from somebody following domestic cricket?

Can you elaborate on "not the first time they messing with him"?

Oh, I don't know either.  I'm saying that it may be what he's trying to
convey in a moment of frustration.

"I scored 5 centuries, 3 90s, gazillion runs, and these selectors shaft me
by not picking me.  See! they have messed with me before, and now they are
accusing me of bribing them."

Actually, it was Shane Warne who offered the bribe.
