Interested in your views for the top 6 for these 3 series. Keep in mind I
am talking about only these 3 series. Next summer we could drop Bevan and
bring Martyn back. My suggestion...

Hayden
Langer
Ponting
Katich
Bevan
?????
Gilchrist

I am aware there are a lot of left-handers there but I don't think it
matters because most of the time the spinners will be putting it across the
lefties and they can hit with the spin through the off side. I'm not sure
about number 6. I would put Clarke there but it's probably only because I
am a NSWman. The best choice is probably Lehmann (yet another leftie), but
after his previous racist abuse of the Sri Lankans perhaps it's not a good
idea to pick him, especially in Sri Lanka.

Before you accuse my selections of being NSW biased, perhaps you could
indicate who would be better and why. BTW. I saw Katich bat live for the
first time yesterday and I haven't seen feet that quick in many years. He
is going to be around for years. It was superb to watch.

How about two of Love, Lehmann and Damien Martyn instead?

Why Bevan, BTW?

And why not 5 bowlers including Bichel and Warne who can bat a bit.  You
guys had problems in Australia bowling to India, imagine how it might get in
the sc?

Hayden, Langer, Ponting, two of Martyn/Love/Lehmann, Katich, Gilly-the-wuss,
Warne, Bichel, Gilly-the-other-wuss, McGrath

sounds like a decent lineup.  Katich can be the part-timer in the sc.

Why, are you afraid that he'll forget what happened, and do it again?

Katich played well against Kumble and co., and maybe it is just me, but he
is one of the ugliest batsmen I have had the privilege of watching.

Effective, but ugly batsmanship.

yep, he is an Azhuku player.
, I wrote earlier here, that he reminds me of mixture of Chanderpaul
(in his back lift and initial back n across movement) and from there
Bevan takes over.. and both those gentlemen dont know what stylish
batting means. the mixture of their batsmanship is going be just that,
another eyesore  player or what we in TN call 'Azhuku' (dirty)

Dunno about this. The ball just whizzes of Chanderpaul's bat swweet.
Tremendous timing there.

Michael Bevan shouldn't, and never will, play test cricket for Australia
again.

1) Langer
2) Hayden
3) Ponting
4) Martyn
5) Katich
6) Clarke
7) Gilchrist

Is the way it will be, with only the Katich/Clarke positions possible to
be swapped. If there is someone else that could be selected, it will be
Lehmann, who will likely tour.

Ordinarily I would agree with you. But in this case I think under the
so-called horses for courses policy he would be a great choice for those
3 series only.

You're right, that's the way it will be, but it's not the way it should
be. Martyn should not be picked. He's had enough time to learn to play
the sort of bowling he faced yesterday. He will get bogged down and we
can't afford it. Ponting is bad enough and they went and named him
captain (which is definitely the correct choice btw). But we can't
afford two of them in the same side. And Gilly is just as bad against
that type of bowling and we have to pick him. If we are forced to go in
with both Ponting and Gilly, I just don't think we can afford Martyn
also.

If we go into those 3 series with all 3 of Ponting, Martyn and Gilly in
the side I think we will lose in Sri Lanka, probably draw 0-0 in Darwin
and Cairns, and probably lose in India.
