It seems England selectors will never ever learn. They keep picking
players who arent evn worth polishing Aussie batsmens shoes.
They dont pick Gower ( Gooch is the culprit here), Botham has been
        banished for good.

All the selectors and the captain should take m***responsibility
and resign from their respective positions. Gooch is a worthless
captain who is finishing david Gower's career. What right does Gooch
have to continue as a captain. He is a loser to the core and the most
        uninspiring cricket personality.

Bowlers like Neil Foster can still get a game while Botham has been
constantly overlooked. Presence of an imposing personality like
Botham would help to pep the teams morale which is at the lowest ebb.

It's unfortunate that the selectors are so reluctant to pick Gower
and Botham and at this rate England are destined to create a world
record lose maximum tests in a row.

I just cannot agree with this comment. As much as I hate Gooch the person
and the captain for what he has done to Gower. The guy is not a loser to the
core. An uninspiring captain yes, dour yes, stifles creativity (!) yes, but
he is not a loser. I know there are a lot of people who would love the
be able to bat like him. I admire his batting but dislike his attitude as
captain.
How about Jack Russell  for England captain, if he can't get in as a
specailist keeper how about him as a specailist captain as England have no
problems with that. Heck, he's got a better batting average than Brearly

You may not agree but the fact is it is true. Gooch is the worst
English captain ever. He cant pick right team, his team consists of
Jokers who have neither the technique to play a spinning ball nor
confidence to face bouncers. One paceman Merv is enough to make
them run for cover. What can these batsmen do apart from tonking
military paced bowlers over the park in a weekend sunday league.
If there was Mcdermott probably the test would have been over
by now.  Just look at What Gatting and Hick have played today.
Such performances would put a school cricketer to shame.
One bouncer is enough toget rid of Hick and gatting forgets that
        there are stumps behind him.

None can help this team. They'll lose all the tests and they richly
deserve to lose them. Good luck to England team for trying their best
to create a new World record lose 10 out of 10 in succession.

You've misunderstood what I've written, you have said 'He is a loser to
the core' which is wrong. I agreed that he is not a good captain. But
he is not a 'loser to the core', if he was a loser to the core I doubt
wether he would be playing for England even given their strange selection
policies.  You add to this that no one can help this team so why do
you pick on Gooch so much. The guy is a class batsman so he can't
be a 'loser to the core'

Wow! Imagine that I'm defending Graham Gooch. I'm going mad!.

He is a loser, because England is in trouble, he displays no interest in
winning the game.

Now *that's* a good idea :-).

I still don't think Botham has what it takes though...

Gooch's captaining is atrocious. i can't remember him setting a decnt
field yet. Whenever a ball is struck to the boundary he just puts a
fieldsmen there. That should have been done before the ball was bowled. He
doesn't chat to his bowlers and spark them up, he doesn't encourage the
field he just lopes around like a whithered old man. Sure he's under
pressure but a good captain would turn that into an adrenalin rush. Gees
Engalnd, change your attitude and attack the bowlers and do some homework on
the batsmen and try to get them out, you are nothing.

The problem is that there have been many occassions now that Australian
batsmen have given chances if only Gooch had the correct field placing!
One that springs to mind is a Slater miscue off Such on his first bowl
around the wicket, and there were no close fieldsmen at all.  This is
clearly ridiculous, especially if you are trying to get wickets!  And
the opening field positions were totally defensive.  How stupid can you
get?  He doesn't attempt to take the game to the Australians, he just
reacts to what they do, too late.  After Slater miscued the ball, *then*
he puts the close fielder back in, but the chance is already gone.
