So yet again india went down to pakistan.  Nothing new in it.  Since
Javed's last ball six in 1986 this has been happening to India on quite
regular basis when they face pakistan.  Atleast this time consolation
was india won one match convincingly by 60 runs.  Second was any one's
match which as always pakistan won by indian cricket player's mental
block when they face paks.  As it happens at Becker-Edberg level - its
more of a mental game as both sides has good talents.  Pak is more
talented in the sense they have good bowling side with good batting line
up.  Many of our pakistani friends have started beating drums of 1992
world cup to Pak.  Its too early to state that.  Since 1983 its always
the outsider team managing the world cup.  In 83 it was west indies and
no one else was contender, still india managed a coup.  In 87 pak and
india were firm favorites, playing on home grounds with reasonably good
team.  Still aussies took the cup.  This year just on the basis of past
couple of season form aussies and paks are favorite to win cup.  I would
rate windies, indians and brits have outside chance. Newzealander,
srilankans and zimbabwians have nothing worth to offer but so did india
in 1983.  South africans have what in store no one knows.  Lets see
what bunch clive rice gathers from british counties.  SO WHO will win?
Too early to say.  Like pak friends I hope that india wins world cup.

Only consolation from sharjah cup is india will aussies a good workout
and won't give away the series easily.  the demolition of windies shows
india has chance to make it into world series finals.  so we look
forward to see indian boys here on MCG.

I never give up on my team!  The absolute truth!  When my team does not
play well I do not cry.  I make no excuses either.  But I expect the
West Indies team to be in the WC finals and even win the entire thing.
Why?  I know that we have the potential (and that does not mean I think
the other teams are weak or anything like that).   All the West Indian
batsmen have to do is score a few runs [I believe that it is due] and
a couple of bowlers have some tight spells, and the West Indies could
well be standing as World Champions!

Believe me it is possible.  I expect the WI to win every time they play
(it does not happen, but).  NEVER COUNT OUT THE WEST INDIES!!!!

I agree with every single word you have written, Jeff. West Indies are truly
world-beaters. This is just a transition phase, what with so many stalwarts
leaving the scene and youngsters being ***ed. I guess it is time for one of
the fast bowlers like Bishop or Walsh or Ambrose to play the main role, like
Holding did for sometime, Roberts before him and Marshall being the most
recent. The constant shuffling around of strike bowlers is not good for any
team. By shuffling around I mean in and out of the team for some reason or the
other. I guess a lot lies in the Captaincy of the team. Whatever any fan of
Richards' may say (include me as one), he is no match to Lloyd as a captain.
Lloyd knew how best to use his main weapons. One would rarely see bowlers like
Roberts or Holding or Marshall limping off the field due to exhaustion.

I guess even the team facing West Indies expect WI to win every time! :--)
Because, the only chance we would have is when every one of the WI top batsmen
fails and atleast three of our batsmen come really good! Remember Richardson's
ton at Sharjah?

I hope WI clicks during the world cup, but is beaten only by India everytime
the two teams come face to face!!!:----------). Ofcourse, India should also
beat all others( well, almost. Pakistan is playing, too :--)).
