What did you think of the TV coverage?

It isn't that surprising that the USA and Canadian networks wouldn't bother
covering a competition being played in Sri Lanka. I'd love to have live
pictures of the Ashes series, but I accept that to do so I should probably
go and live in Australia or the UK where there is enough demand to justify
the coverage.

There was this one memorable winter break a couple years ago, when we
in the USA had the opportunity to watch 3 tests simulatenously! India
was touring NZ, and we'd watch that from about 3pm to 11pm. As soon as
that ended, theyd go off to Australia where the last Ashes tests were
in progress - theyd catch a majority of the day there. And then, about
an hour after the Ashes test ended (at 3am or so), it would be off to
South Africa, to watch a telecast of the WI/RSA test! That would end
at about noon, at which point theyd attempt to fill-in the part of the
Ashes test they had missed, before they went back to NZ/India :-)
Why, even last year, we got to watch Zimbabwe and Pakistan in WI,
followed by WI in England, and, later in the year, WI in Australia,
Zimbabwe in India, and England in Pakistan.
Which is why this year is such an irritant, with India in Zimbabwe
and now apparently India in SL not being covered. It is a reversal
of policy, and they are now taking away something we had gotten
used to - India matches invariably draw sufficient numbers of fans
to be shown, usually. Personally, I think its all Bharat Rao's fault -
ever since he got the Dish and made everyone envious at the thought of
him watching cricket on his 60 inch home theatre, the resultant bad
karma has seen all Indian matches being taken off the air.

Bharat Rao constantly decries ODI cricket on RSC, because he thinks
it makes him look very intelligent. However, reality is very different.
He has subscribed to all the ODI series since the time he got the dish
installed. He may or may not subscribe for the test matches, but he used
to be our fixed customer for the ODI matches.
3 months before any ODI series, he starts telephoning us & harasses our
customer service people about the ODI series. He demands that they promise
him that they won't cancel telecast of the ODI tournaments. He phones many
times everyday. Because of this we have had to appoint 5 extra customer
service people to man the 800 numbers. 10 of existing CS people also
resigned claiming harrasment & 1 even took us to court & we had to settle
with him. Other than this, when the ODI match is actually being telecast,
Mr. Rao apparently turns his home theatre system on to maximum volume &
jumps up & down for every 4 or wicket. Many people in his community do
not sleep at all during ODI matches & they are threatening a class action
suit against us if we telecast any more ODI matches.
All this litigation & additional customer service costs make it impossible
for us to telecast any more ODI series, till Mr. Rao uninstalls his dish
equipment. We actually have rights for the Test Matches also, but unfortunately
we can't telecast the tests because we have disconnected all our 800 lines
temporarily to thwart Mr. Rao. The downside of course is that we can't accept
subscriptions & hence there is no point in telecasting the test matches.
Hopefully, in 3 years or so, when Mr. Rao is too old to trouble us, we may
think of starting to telecast cricket again.
Thank you for you continuing support.
