Watching cricket on both Dish & Direct TV resolution (US fans only)

Hi folks,

Here is the resolution I came up with to watch India's Tests on both
Direct & Dish.

I got DirectTV (with HD-DVR if you care) and regular programming, and
will get the cricket series on PPV.  (Email me at
rao(underscore)bharat(AT)yahoo(DOT)com if you want the price details,
but I will be checking only intermittently over holidays.)  I managed
to get only a one year commitment.

As for DISH, I'm putting my Dish on "Dish Pause" which amounts to $10/
month +tax, and I can turn it back on when I need to get cricket PPV.
Only catch is that I'll also have to pay for a minimum of $20/mnth to
get basic programming plus whatever the PPV costs for the time cricket
comes on DISH -- or if it is on Zee TV, add Zee for $20/mnth as well.
Then (despite what they tell you) you can DISH Pause again.

This works fine as I'll get India's tour of Australia and Sri Lanka
(Jul-Aug) on Direct TV as PPV, and then will sign up onto DISH to get
PPV for the South African home series (Feb-Mar), the Zim tour won't
likely happen, Australia (Oct 08), England (Nov) and then back to
Pakistan (Dec-Jan).

Basically, you get one of the two to get your regular programming, and
use the other one just for PPV.

Any chance that the series will just be a PPV program on Dish?
Usually its on channel 520 or something and slightly more expensive.

Lucky you Bharat. I have to subscribe to willow.tv since I am homeless
and moving :-)

Willow.tv's cricket ticket 2008 is not bad but I wish they have one
package that covers all matches involving India in 2008 so I don't
have to keep subscribing for packages every couple of months

Since the India series usually goes for higher prices and there are
more takers, the chances of it getting bunched up with cricket played
by other countries is pretty minimal.

Only on Direct I'm afraid.  Thats what finally forced me to make the
switch.  I do know it is on Willow, however.

Is Zee sports not covering any more cricket series?

I believe Zee Sports will show the series that occur in India and
Pakistan -- unless DISH chooses to put them on PPV.   They way I see
it

Direct TV shows
India in Australia (current tour), India in Sri Lanka.   I presume the
tour to Zimbabwe is off (at least the Tests).

DISH shows (on ZeeSports or PPV)
South Africa in India, Australia in India, England in India, and India
in Pakistan

of the Tests happening in the next 12-14 months.  As an India fan in
the US, no choice but to get both sets of telecasts.

A clue may come from the two packages being offerred by Willow:
http://willow.tv/EventMgmt/Default.asp

CricketTicket 2008
India take on the top 2 teams of the world, Australia and Sri Lanka,
over 7 Tests and 20 ODIs. Enjoy Channel 9 production and great timings
for US residents. Included events are
India tour of Australia. 4 Tests
India v Australia v Sri Lanka Tri-Series. 15 ODIs.
India tour of Sri Lanka. 3 Tests, 5 ODIs.
England tour of New Zealand. 3 Tests, 5 ODIs, 2 Twenty20s.
Zimbabwe tour of Sri Lanka. 3 Tests, 5 ODIs.
Live Video Streaming, On-Demand Replays, Highlights, Video Scorecards,
commentary and much more. All this for just $149.99 !!

I presume all these will be on Direct TV (hopefully for the same price
and the same package -- right now DirectTV isn't advertising it on
their site and I will be one p**sed customer if they don't get their
act together soon:-)

The following should be on DISH. (second package on Willow)

   Zee Sports Americas
Watch Live video streaming of the Zee Sports Americas channel 24x7 on
Willow.tv. Includes live streaming of events like
ICL - Indian Cricket League 20/20 TEAMS & SCHEDULE
South Africa tour of India 2008
New Zealand and South Africa tour England 2008
India Domestic Cricket, Tennis, Football, Golf and much more

In fact it is the other way round. India series are made more expensive but
bundles with series between other countries are thrown into a package to
make it look better.
Look at Cricket Ticket 2008 on willow which is basically a DirecTV package.
Now head over to Directv's webpage and see how much only the India-Aus
series is going for
