Wells called up for 5th test

Post by Eckart Schumma » Wed, 09 Aug 1995 04:00:00

I read in the newspaper about wells being picked for England, but I have
never heard of him before. I take it he is a batsman, since he is
replacing Robin Smith. Where does he bat, what has he done in County
Cricket to warrant being called up?

Also, in South Africa, there were rumours that Ian Botham was going to be
called up. I pressume that didn't happen.

Thanks

Lyal

A very good batsman, captain of Sussex and who captained the England "A"
tour to India last winter. Now aged about 33, he has been very unlucky
not to be called up long before this.

You *are* out of touch in South Africa, by the sound of it :-)
Botham retired about 2-3 years ago. Perhaps you are confusing him with
Allan Lamb, about whom rumours that he might be called up were
circulating here?
