Not whilst Ramnaresh Sarwan's still around to justify much of the
enthusiasm that was generated in this ng courtesy Rohan and Sadiq:-)
after his debut against Pakistan.

Excuse me. I've been on the Sarwan bandwagon since the England series.
Later than Rohan and Sadiq, but I've been doing my little bit to tout
him too, you know.

Cheers,

Mike

Poor bloke. Not only does he have a name that starts "Ram..." and ends
"..sh", but he has Rohan and Mike as fans. Doesn't stand a chance, I say.

And me, and me! I was a fan of the original "Ram..sh" too, after all -
and still am, actually :-)

So Sarwan does have a lot to overcome. But he's good enough to do it
anyway :-)

Iam glad he had a good last innings in Australia. At least it'll wipe
away some of the "worst batsman to ever play here" tags that people on
rsc seemed so keen to put on him :-) Played a very nice innings in the
last test I thought - his confidence was obviously low at the start and
he had no form at all, feet werent moving very well. But after a few
runs they started to move again and he looked quite good I thought. Was
finally dismissed to a wonderful ball from Mcgrath - first delivery
with the new ball that landed on the seam, shaped away beautifully, and
bounced nastily from a good length - feathered the edge and thru to
Gilly. Oh well.

I still think the WI selectors ought to try and build around him and
Samuels for the future. And maybe keep Wavell at opener - as Ian
Chappell said, when you find a left-handed opener who can do well, its
like finding gold in the street :-)

We said that about the other Ram***sh as well, you know. Look how much
good that did us.

I'll be very surprised if all three of W Hinds, M Samuels and Sarwan
turn out to be stars in the end. One of them's going to turn out to be
a dud, although it will take a few years before we're finally
convinced of which one it is.

Cheers,

Mike

Doesn't the father of the nation have that tag sown up for posterity?

Before we get into finding which of the above three, are we finally
convinced about Hooper and Ramprakash ?
