England win First test (big deal!)

Big deal,

I've never seen a more inept batting side ever. I'm sure when bangladesh get
test status, they would give it a better shot.! Can't wait to see England
play some "real opposition"

The following teams will give England a much better run for their money:

Zimbabwe in the 2nd Test
West Indies for the rest of the summer
Sri Lanka at the end of the year
Australia next summer

Just gets worse and worse, eh?  Why not congratulate your team for
winning, ie, getting the job done, while they have the chance.

I raise the comparitive example of Formula One racing:  Is a Michael
Schumacher win in dry weather with Hakkinen and Coulthard parked up
against the wall still a win?  Or does it have to be in pouring rain,
like Sunday was, before the win has merit?

A win in Formula One never has any merit whatsoever, period.
That sentence is even more true without the first three words.

in a row streak ;-)

I think it's Pakistan *and* Sri Lanka this winter (3 tests apiece), and as
you say, the Ashes in UK in 2001. There's certainly plenty of stiff
opposition ahead, starting, as you also say, with the propect of a badly
stung Zim, less daunted by the venue, coming back at us at Trent Bridge.

Yes, it's going to be a wrench when we fail to beat Pakistan and have to
stop at 8.

Which is much better than 10 wins short.
