There may be some doubt about Aus test rankings but there is no doubt about
them being THE BEST ODI TEAM EVER!

Congratulations Australia.

Don't know about best ever, not something you can really quantify, but
they have demonstrated beyond doubt that they were the best side in
this tournament, twice thrashing the side that proved beyond doubt
they were second best.

I think 17 wins in a row is pretty conclusive. Can you think of any other
teams over the years that have been as *** as the current Australian
ODI team?

The last team to really take it to Australia was NZ and that was two years
ago. Since then Australia have lost very few games.

If there is so much doubt about the test rankings why did Shawn Pollock get
sacked seeing as he has led his team to the #1 rank in test matches with
awesome displays against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe.

Personally I think the last Aussie team may just about have had their
measure. Mark Waugh scored 4 centuries in the last WC and Gilly was smashing
it all over the place too, and we still had Warne and McGrath.

Gilly doesn't do particularly well at WC's.

And if Srinath had one more over to bowl, he would've had his first century
in ODI's today.

True, but still some way to go to catch Martin Snedden.

I may be mistaken, but I thought Snedden conceded 100+ off 12?

LOL..2 finals, 2 smashing 50's.  Ask the Indian supporters whether runs in
the finals mean anything?

Looking it up, Snedden's figures were 12-1-105-2.  So not only did he bowl a
maiden, he also claimed the wickets of Lamb and Gatting.  All in all a
creditable spell, and figures which Srinath would probably have 'caught' if
the rules allowed it.

Srinath's 87 appears to be the fifth most runs ever conceded by a bowler in
an odo (but only the second most expensive of this World Cup after Rudi van
Vuuren's 10-0-92-0 against Australia).  Of those who have conceded 80 or
more, Martin Suji's 7-0-81-0 against India at Paarl in 2001 stands out.

That depends a lot on the schedule and how seriously you take the
matches.

The early 80s Windies would be comparable but probably didn't play as
many one dayers and I think they tended to take a few matches easy
once they'd qualified for finals.

The Windies in the early 80s.

Ok, Ashantha de Mel, if you must be so picky about number of overs bowled.

IIRC, De Mel conceded 97 of 10 overs.
