I thought Ryder might get canned for under performing in his two FP
outings, if he didn't rapidly deliver the goods, but his failure to
show for the Ireland vs Surrey (rained-off) game is astonishing. He's
apparently getting approximately 1,000 euros a game for his services
and that alone should be motivation enough to show up, without even
considering that solid performances might increase his market value
and opportunities. I guess he's now the overseas "unprofessional".

On a more positive note, I think it's very cool that Peter Gillespie
(Ireland) took time to play cricket behind the Ireland tent with a
bunch of local kids who were looking for autographs. That's a very
thoughtful thing to do and might be all the encouragement one or more
of the kids need to get on with improving their skills. Who knows
where it might lead. [applause for Gillespie]
