Handling the ball.

Handling the ball.

What precisely is the rule on handling the ball? From my last reading
of the rules (longer ago than I care to admit), I seem to recall that
a batsman IS allowed to use his hand to prevent the ball from rolling
on to the stumps. However, this seems contrary to popular belief.

So, will some kind soul type in the relevant rule? And please, just
give us the facts, opinions are irrelevant in cases such as this.

Not really. In fact, a batsman is allowed to use
any part of his body or equipment EXCEPT his hand, to prevent the ball from
rolling on to the stumps. Examples may be his bat, his foot etc.
