I wonder if RSCers in the UK could tell me about the prospects (and
potential costs) of getting
tickets for the England/Zim test at Lords, May 18-22.  I expect to be in
London May 19-21
(i.e. Fri PM - Sun) and would like to try and get to at least one day of
this test. What are my chances?

Potential bribe: I'd be happy to buy a few beers for helpful RSCers
at/near the shrine.

If we had an rsc FAQ, information on how to get Test tickets should
definitely be included, as this question is a hardy perennial :)

Since Zimbabwe may not be as big a draw as some other Test countries,
there *may* be some tickets left on sale on the day, but it would be
risky to rely on that, especially as Fri-Sat-Sun tend to be the most
popular days and Lord's the most popular venue. You can either write for
a ticket application form, enclosing a stamped addressed envelope
(though getting the right stamp may be tricky for you from abroad) to:

ENGLAND

Or you can book by credit card, but not till 17th April, with the slight
risk that all tickets may be sold. The phone number is
 +44 (0)20 7432 1066.

Ticket prices range from 18-28 GBP (assuming you don't want a
"restricted view" seat, where prices start at 10 GBP), with "juveniles"
(under 16 on 29th February, 2000) paying half-price.

Incidentally, to forestall a possible flood of similar questions, the
phone numbers for all the English Test grounds should be available on
Cricinfo somewhere. I'd also expect to find ticket information somewhere
within the ECB's pages at http://www.lords.org

Ask your post office for International Reply Coupons (IRCs) and enclose
a couple with your self-addressed envelope.  That works for me, though
I've never ordered tickets from Lord's.
