INDIAN XI Announced for Final against Pakistan in Banglore

Jadeja to lead the Indian team in the finals
Mumbai: Indian skipper Mohammed Azharuddin has been
ruled out of the
tri-series one-day cricket final against arch rivals
Pakistan at Bangalore on
                    April 4.
The secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in
India (BCCI), Jayawant Lele,
said that Azhar, who had pulled out of the last two
league matches against Sri
Lanka at Pune and Pakistan at Mohali due to a shoulder
injury,is still to recover
                    completely.
"I spoke to Azhar in Hyderabad today and he told me that
his shoulder still
hurts and needed three more days rest", he added.
"However, he has confirmed his availability to lead the
side in the Sharjah
tourney from April seven involving India,Pakistan and
England for which the
team will be announced on Sunday at Bangalore. In his
absence Ajay Jadeja
will lead the side in the final," Lele said.
Azhar is the second casuality in the Indian side.
Earlier, Sachin Tendulkar
pulled out of the entire series due to back spasm for
which he received
treatment from a specialist Dr Ken Kenndy in England.
The selectors have also brought back medium pacer
Javagal Srinath, leg
spinner Anil Kumble, opening batsman S Ramesh,
wicketkeeper Nayan
Mongia in place of Laxmi Ratan Shukla, Virender Shewag,
Vinod Kambli and
Syed Saba Karim for the finals.

The team: Ajay Jadeja (capt), S Ramesh, Saurav Ganguly,
Rahul Dravid, Amey
Khurasia, Hrishikesh Kanitkar, Robin Singh, Nayan Mongia
(wk), Anil Kumble,
Nikhil Chopra, Gyanendra Pandey, Javagal Srinath,
Venkatesh Prasad and Ajit
                    Agarkar.(PTI)

This was pasted from Times Of India.
Looks like the selectors are continuing with their experiment.  They have
given another opportunity to
Khurasiya, Kanitkar and Ramesh, to grab a spot for WC99.  Also, we can
safely omit Shukla, Shewag
from the WC99.  Kambli, I am not so sure.  I hope that the players given a
chance here grab it woth both
hands.  This will ensure that India will put up a good show in the final.
Kanitkar is in the team as a
replacement for Azhar, and I don't think he will be in the playing eleven or
the WC99 squad.

Based on the squad announced, I think this is going to be the final XI:

Ganguly, Ramesh, Dravid, Khurasiya, Jadeja, Robin, Mongia, Agarkar, Srinath,
Kumble and Prasad.

We cannot afford to leave Prasad out after the way he bowled yesterday.
Chopra will have to sit out.
Ramesh and Dravid will have to chip in 2-3 overs of spin.  If the pitch is
helping the seamers, then
we may not need them to bowl at all.  The batting will have to improve to
give the bowlers a chance.
Lets also hope that if India loses wickets early, Jadeja does not come in
earlier than #5.  It would be better
to send Robin or Mongia ahead of him to pinch hit.  Then, Jadeja can slog in
the final 10 overs.

I am hoping for a repeat of the WC96 qtr final....   and a surprise Indian
win over Pakistan....   like in the Titan Cup
against South Africa, when India just managed to make it to the final and
beat the Unstoppable Proteas team.

Go Jadeja.... Get Them....Now you have almost a full strength team, and as
the Australians say, Tomorrow
is a new day and we start all over again....

Cheers.   !!

I have drawn different conclusions.  I presently think that Shewag,
Kanitkar, Pandey and Kambli are likely to be dropped but expect Shukla to be
definitely included (based on the fact that there are only 4 fast/medium
bowlers in the XIX and his performance at Mohali where he had a continuous
spell of 10 overs opening the attack).

However, the list of four players to be dropped could be changed if:
(a) Either Kanitkar or Pandey is selected for the final (highly unlikely)
and puts in a superb performance; and
(b) Kambli MAY get in only if Ramesh or Khurasia play and have a shocking
performance.

BTW, can anybody who saw Ramesh play at Pune inform what they think of his
foot-movement and ability to play ODI in England during May/June. This may
be relevant to the final WC XV selection.

Cheers
Prakash

Prakash:
Ramesh did not play in Pune, but in Jaipur.  His footwork was not very good.
Khurasiya played in Pune and he could also get in trouble in English
conditions.  I saw him and he shuffles too much across the stumps and that
could get him out LBW when the ball swings.  He also leaves a huge gap
between bat and pad and that's how Saqlain got him out, the ball going thru
his defense and he got stumped.  Both these players could have problems in
England but both seem to have plenty of time to play the balls, unlike
Jadeja, who was really struggling in Jaipur and Mohali.  I can tell you that
Jadeja is going to have a rough time in England.
I think Kambli might still make it to England if Ramesh or
Khurasiya fail in the Final.  I don't think the selectors know what they are
doing.  I think they are going to omit Sehwag, Pandey, Kanitkar and Ramesh.
Kambli could make it because of his experience and we do need cover in the
middle order because injuries are bound to occur in England.  Remember how
Dravid and Ganguly got a break in 96 ?  They played at Lords only because
Manjrekar was injured, Jadeja and Rathore had failed, Sidhu having walked
out earlier.  There were no healthy batsmen left to pick from.  That's why
they should pick Kambli, he has played in England and has a proven track
record.  Ramesh is still too raw to be taken to WC99 and Khurasiya has a
better chance than Ramesh because he is more mature, older and has shown
correct temperment for ODIs, and he can also open if needed.  Well, we don't
have to wait too long now to find out the WC99 XV.  They HAVE to announce by
Monday morning.
Cheers !!

WRONG! Ramesh played at Pune and made 24 off 40. He also injured his back and had to
sit out the next match.

Oh, the rediff report said he danced down to slog Saqlain!

Do you ever read or think about what you write? Just read the above paragraph
and try to make sense out of that. Each line is trying to convey the opposite
of the previous one or the next one.

Cricketwallah:
I know what I am writing.  There is no contradiction.  All I am trying to
say is that Kambli might make it ahead of Ramesh and Khurasiya if they fail
in the final and since he has experience in England, he should be picked
ahead of the two.  Either or both will have to succeed in the final.
Sorry to confuse you.
Cheers !!

Then how about this sentence?

You also recommend the same thing, but you blame selectors for selecting the
same team
