This is a text newsgroup.  HTML elsewhere, please.

What do you mean "this is a text newsgroup"??? The whole of usenet, with
the exception of the binaries.* tree, is text, NOT html.

Just because *your* newsreader can render it, and can generate it, does not
make it appropriate.

In my not-so-humble opinion, any newsreader (or email client, for that
matter) that can render html like a browser is BROKEN.

Just go with the flow control, roll with the crunches, and, when you
get a prompt, type like hell.

Matt,

Fully agree.

Both my email client and my news reader (both non-M$ products BTW) have
the ability to render HTML.  In both, I have intentionally disabled this
"feature", because I'm ultra-security conscious.

If posters insist on sending me HTML guff, I just don't read it, but bin
it.  They want to reduce their audience, their problem.

I consider it more rude than top-posting.  I don't use UseNet for
"pretties".  If they "need" to use HTML, let them set up a web page and
send me the URL.

Geoff... any chance you could e-mail me a short set of instructions to kill
the HTML formatting completely?  I've done part measures through the
"format" menu, but the f*ing thing keeps resetting it to whatever the
message needs to be.

TIA

He uses a different newsreader. And he is talking about not rendering HTML.
What you are talking about it not composing HTML.

AFAIK, there in no way to do what he is talking about in Outlook Express.

About your problem, the thing I do is this.
When you are following up to HTML/RT, OE seems to compose
your reply in the same format. So after clicking on Reply & having the
reply open in your composition window, you click on the Format menu.
Then Choose Rich Text(HTML) from the drop down. And again
click Format & now choose Plain text. This seems to work most of the
time. i.e. OE doesn't allow you to directly format it to plain text,
because it thinks it's already doing plain text, because of the options
you have chosen. So now you have to convert it to Rich Text & convert
it back to Plain text. Works most of the time.

I am assuming you already have set the rights options in tools/options.

Correct Raghu.

Moby, just get yourself a better client, one built specifically just for
UseNet.

Look at:
http://tucows.mirror.aarnet.edu.au/news95_default.html
or
http://cws.internet.com/news.html

Free Agent is very popular.  I use MicroPlanet Gravity, but their site
seems down lately.

Yeah, I do that already when I notice.  Of course, I don't always notice.

In Outlook Express 6, there is a setting under:
Tools -> Options -> Read which can be ticked to "Read All Messages In Plain
Text"

Am using Ver 6.  Is it the encoding?  Otherwise I can't find it.

Go to Tools -> Options. Then select the Read tab. Fourth check box from the
top should be "Read All Messages As Plain Text".

(Have sent a screenshot to your e-mail)

You have 6.00.28.

Me & Moby had 6.00.26

Moby, you can download the latest version from the MS site.
I think IE6 SP1 comes with OE 6.00.28

Yes, I understand that it does.
