Wrist pain ... wrong grip???

Post by Paulette and Ji » Sun, 25 Apr 1999 04:00:00

I have just started playing about 6 weeks ago , some work buddies have
been trying to get me to play so i finally started . They say i hit
pretty good , i call it beginners luck ... anyway on to the problem , im
getting intense pain in my left wrist on the bottom side while gripping
and swinging the club , i can normally make it through the first three
holes before it starts effecting my swing . Anybody else have this
problem ? Is it that im not holding the club right ? Any suggestions ?
I severely broke my left forearm about 20 years ago, plates , screws ,
etc... im thinking maybe this is the problem , i hope not, i really
enjoy the game and the people and i would hate to give it up.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or advice,
Jim Beasley

Thanks for the info, I have noticed it starts to level off ... maybe there is
hope for me after all .
I'm thinking of taking some lessons myself .

Hi Jim,
I was in golf school a few weeks ago and among many other changes, the most
dramatic one was my grip.  I had severe wrist pains for about 5-7 games.
Then gradually it just levelled off.  I still feel it a little after a game,
however, it is getting less & less.  My pro said it was due to the new grip
position of my hands.  Hopefully this  will help you.

Wrist pain ... wrong grip???

I had a similar problem when I started playing after a long layoff.
I think it's a matter of getting used to swinging the club, but in my
case, I was gripping the club too hard.  Both hands hurt quite a
bit, but the outside of the left hand was especially bad.  I eased
off the grip a little while I also got used to playing again, and I
haven't had anymore problems.
