Example: if you hit a seven iron 110 yards, then you should hit a seven
iron 110 yards.

I was using Joe's example.  I don't know how far he really hits a seven
iron.  It shouldn't matter to him how far I hit one or how far you hit
it.  It's his game and his seven iron.  Granted, a 110 yard seven iron
seems kinda short.  On the other hand, my 80 year old father would be
thrilled to hit his seven that far.

Did I get this straight?  That if I should hit a 7-iron 110 yards
[patetic] then I should hit a 7-iron 110 yards?

There is no rule of thumb. It depends on your strength and ability to
hit the ball. Shag balls until you are confident of what club you use
for 150 yards and club yourself from there.

In other words when someone askes me what club I am going to use to hit
the ball I answer with 'my 110 yrd club'.  The distance you hit with
each club is what you hit with each club.  Yes, 110 with a 7 iron my be
PATHETIC to you but how do you know Joe is not a person that can't hit
it any farther?  or maybe Joe is new to the game?  The only thing
pathetic here is your answer or lack of one.
