Tiger Woods club distances

There has been a fair amount of discussion re: the
extraordinary distances young guns like Tiger etc
achieve and whether or not their clubs are set strong
etc, so I thought this might be of interest. A few years
ago, shortly after Tiger exploded on the tour, they
put a table of Tiger's "expected club distances" up
on the screen during one of the tour broadcasts.
I THINK they obtained the info from Fluff Cowan
but I'm not sure. I saved the info in an excel file
which I found recently on an old 486 in my
ba***t. I believe these are expected CARRY
distances, and these are circa 1997 vintage.

1W 305
3W 270
2I 240
3I 225
4I 210
5I 195
6I 180
7I 170
8I 160
9I 145
PW 130
SW 115
LW 90

You may be surprised at how LOW some of these numbers
are - I was when I dug it up today!

Regards,
Jordan

Actually....
Those numbers are 5 yards MORE than tiger's current distances. WHen he and
Harmon rebuilt his swing, he now carries the driver UP TO 290-300 yards, with a
15 yard gap between clubs. His set is forged, which produces more distance than
cast, but the lofts are 2 degrees weaker than standard.

give me a break. please show me one piece of supporting evidence that forged
clubs hit longer than cast. i'd be suprised if you can fill a single
reference here.

I was travelling last week and played with a borrowed set of forged blades.
I found them to be at least a club shorter than my el cheapo cast cavity
backs.

Same lofts, lengths, and shaft flex on both sets of clubs?

Of course I  have no way to know that....I was out of town and had to borrow
the clubs to play.  The lenght seemed about the same and the shafts said
"regular" which own clubs do but that means squat.  It was just an
unscientific observation based on N=1.  I was just VERY surprised at how
short these blades were.   Even when I hit it pure I was often 1 of even 2
clubs short of where I "should" have been with my cavity backs.  For
example, I normally hit a 4 iron about 205 but I was lucky to get 175 with
these blades and I did not mishit the ball.

Most, but not all, blades have more traditional (read 'weaker') lofts
than cavity backs.
