Hitting on the toe

Hitting on the toe

Post by Mike Begema » Fri, 13 Feb 1998 04:00:00

I am about a 5 handicapper, but have had a problem for about the last 2
years of hitting the ball out on the toe of my irons.  I generally play a
draw (hook sometimes).  Am I dropping the club too far inside?  Any help
would be greatly appreciated.

Byron Nelson once said you can't stand too close to the ball.  That may
be an exxageration, but he makes a good point.

And he oughta know.

I have historically had this problem from time to time as well, and what
I've always done to correct it is setup with the ball on the heel of the
clubface, almost to the hosel.  I find that this typically fixes my
problem and gets my confidence back in short order.  Try it on the
range, see if it works for you.
