Detroit Area RSG Outing Plans

Post by Don Doyl » Fri, 16 Jun 2000 04:00:00

Hi All,

After reviewing available dates, trying to accommodate everyone's
schedules and talking to a few of you; here is what I think will work.

Location:  Hartland Glen - M-59 2 Miles East of US-23

Date:  July 8 or 9 - most likely Sunday the 9th

Tee time:  8 AM - North Course    1 - 1:30 PM South Course

Cost: $60 for 36 Holes - Including Cart - this is $20 off the normal
weekend rate.

Food and Drink:  You buy your own - or win it from the Canadians! :-)

Format: Match play (CAN/AM Cup) and a medal play format - handicaps
will apply.

Handicap:  For those who have one we will use them.  Americans add 3
strokes - Canadian Team - Subtract 6!  Seriously, lets be gentlemen
here and be honest if you do not have a verifiable handicap.  If you
exaggerate you will play hell on RSG - know what I mean? :-)

Prizes:  I think for this outing they are not necessary.  But, if
someone wants to donate some - they would be accepted!

Skins:  YES - BUT YOUR OPTION IF YOU WANT TO GET IN OR NOT

Other Possible bets:  Strictly your option - maybe a buck for each of
closest to the pin, longest drive etc.  Need to know your opinions on
this.

Other betting:  That is up to you! But be sure to get strokes from
Inglis and Sneddon - consider yourself forewarned!! :-)

Trophy:  One for CAN/AM, One for Medal - I will donate them -
guaranteed value of over $0.01 Total - don't expect much!!  Its the
bragging rights that count..

TALK IT UP!!  If you have friends that would wish to play - please
feel free to invite them.  This is for fun and new friendships.

DEADLINE:  I would like to know by 6.30.00 if you can make it or not -
as I have to confirm tee times etc.
Inasmuch as we have to get teams for the CAN/AM competition this will
be on a first committed first available basis.  In other words if
there are only 6 guys from Canada and 8 from the US then only the
first 6 from the US can compete against the 6 Canadians for the "Cup".
ALL people interested will be able to play!!  We will find some way to
juggle the groups - with exception of the Cup teams.

Payment:  You pay the course upon arrival.

Playing Partners:  Who knows - luck of the draw!

Future:  If this works out - as I suspect it shall - we will try for
another outing in the Fall.  Location to be determined.

If you need to share a ride with someone email me and I hopefully I
can let you know of others coming from your area.

If you can think of anything else please email me.

Thanks,

Don

More info:

If you wish you may walk!

Not sure of what the cost reduction is (if any) as the course
basically offered the carts for free.

Normal walking rate is $30/18 on weekends.

I usually walk - but being an old fart and playing 36 holes - I will
make an exception and ride.

Here is an update:

So far there is a possibility of 17 golfers.  9 Canadian Team and 8
American Team.

Hopefully we will hear from more.  Not bad for the first day.

I will use my range finder over the next couple of weeks and get some
distances for EVERYONE.  We WILL play the ball DOWN.  The only rule
bending that I can see would be taking 2 strokes if OB rather than
going back to the tee.  This is in the interest of faster play -
especially on a public course.

Once again, if anyone does not agree let me know - we will do what the
majority wishes.

PLEASE - any more suggestions or requests are welcome - don't be shy!

Sneddon asked for strokes - he wasn't shy - but then again he's not
going to get em either! :-)

It seems only fair for the Host country to offer their guests strokes.
After all, we have to take out second mortgages on our homes to afford the
$60US greens fees, and if that is not bad enough we have to bet for
food!!!!!  As it stands we will all have to pool our money just buy one pop
and nine straws.

Plus you will have to pay off your "SKINS" bets in US Funds - none of
that funny money accepted here!

If you cannot pay then I am sure that I have plenty of yard work so
you can work it off.  I will however feed you one meal a day. :-)  or
you can caddy for me! :-) hehe

On the other hand, IF and that is a BIG IF - you perhaps win a skin -
you could convert it to Canadian and retire. :-)

Besides, it is really a *** when you pay more for gas to get to the
course than the greens fee.  Speaking of which it is $60 TOTAL for
BOTH rounds.  No need to get your Canadian mates any more nervous than
they will be on July 9th.   See, you won't have to sell your Rolls
afterall. :-)

For those that are not familiar with the banter here - being so close
to Canada, we always hear their comments about the difference in the
value of the Canadian and US Dollar.

We could have a side bet of a couple of Cubans (cigars) - no where you
can buy them?  HEHE - HINT!!

Since we are confident of winning, the thought of paying off hadn't ocurred
to us!!!!

As far as gas prices go, right now it is cheaper in Windsor ON than in
Detroit !!!!

Well,  I  m_i_g_h_t  know of a place where Cuban cigars are available !!!!
