Well to be fair he's honest enough to do it straight after a match
when he's been asked to analyse it. Nadal for example would say all
the right things in his pressers ('he play better than me' and 'he the
better player so I lost' etc etc) and then he'd drop the injury/
fatigue bombshell a few months clear of the event.

Don't believe me? Murray beat him fair and square in 2008 at the USO,
but a few months later (after initially congratulating Murray for
playing the better tennis) all the fatigue stories come out, and Nadal
basically said that he was too tired from a previous match to compete
on an even playing field. How's that for diminishing Murray's
achievement?

Just because he backdates his excuses rather than presenting them at
the time, it doesn't make it right. Every time someone beats Nadal,
their victory is asterisked, as in Nadal was unfit, or had family
troubles, or was tired, etc etc. The knee troubles (which seem to come
and go at some pretty suspect times...during the Petchner match for
example, with the convenient MTO) hover continuously in the media
because Nadal's P.R. group won't stop mentioning them, before, during
and after every tournament. Does this make it okay for Nadal to always
have a ready made excuse which he can use after initial false humility
following a defeat? Why indulge Nadal and penalise Federer, just
because Federer is upfront about it when quizzed about it immediately
after a match?

Double standards by tennis fans and the media alike, if you ask me,

Murray said also yesterday he was tired before QF match vs Rafa in Wimbledon
2008 because his fitness wasn't at the most elite level at the time.

I believe him.

In other words, he only got the MRI to back up his whiny claims? How
sad.

What if he flunks?

Well, by definition he flunks, and the doctor is not going to say
anything either way, rogi doesn't let him!

How easy it would have been to dismiss rumours about mono being an
excuse - just let the doctor confirm it to the press. But he didn't.
Lying cunt.

Good post and I agree.  I think he or his team recently excused the
loss to Roddick earlier this year as well.  I would much rather Nadal
admit to an injury straight away than to wait weeks or months.  He
claims it would sound like an excuse to claim an injury in the post-
match interview, but how is it any different to make the excuse some
time after the loss?

Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike the guy, but he seems to be the
subject of a marketing campaign by his team and I think they use some
really ugly tactics sometimes.

Doesn't change that fact that he is greater than any US player in
history.
