one of the best things about her is she told Reagan and the EU what
was what, instead of Bliar who just followed whatever Bush wanted.

I suspect that all these "jocks and Northerns" you know of inhabit the same
segment of your imagination as the "crazy Fedfans". You can be a worrying
sort of fella old boy! :)

Oh please felangey! Thatcher came along and rescued Britain when it
was in economic shambles. She was a radical visionary who achieved a
lot and she is to be respected, love her politics or hate them.

She rode the right wing wave.  She had big balls.  Britain is back in
the red so whatever
she did...didn't last long, did it?

I'm always amused at how much credit politicians are given when they
disassemble things.  I'm not
saying that she was necessarily always wrong....just that the bar is
set so low for politicians that a
cut and slash artist like Thatcher can look like a visionary.  Any
fool can push for deregulation and privatization...
it's true that most will buckle under the pressure and end up doing
nothing....Thatcher deserves credit
for sticking to her guns...but that's about it.

Fact is that anybody who really has an idea to streamline programs or
reform them for the better is not likely to
succeed because THAT kind of change is really almost impossible to
achieve in a democracy....but you can
always take the axe to a department and slow the rate of increase in
taxation.

RIP anyhow you old piker.

"radical visionary"??

I have visions of privatizing every park, every public washroom, and
every service currently
administered by the state.....

Now this is an agenda, not a vision...let's not get too ***ing
carried away OK?

Well....she pretty much broke up what made Britain what it was for many. She
has left a political legacy of rampant inequality.....of greed....breaking
up of society....privatisation.....industrial ruin. The working classes had
too much power for her liking, so she systematically dismantled them via
sabotage. Abolition of exchange controls allowed the city to thrive while
other parts of the economy withered. The pound soared on tha back of
this....making borrowing really expensive.....and in turn manufacturing and
industry became prohibitively expensive....and these parst of the economy
folded. Unemployment went through the roof....working class communities left
in ruin - many of them never to recover. It was at that point the biggest
transfer of wealth from poor to rich we had seen.

I think you really have to be going some to have such a large part of an
entire country still filled with bitter hatred for you decades after you
leave office. When you delve deeper and see her track record it is really
quite impressive, not only domestically. She was instrumental in bringing
about the 1st Gulf War.....publically advocated and influences the 2003
attack on Iraq. She denounced the ANC and Mandela as terrorists. Was a
steadfast friend to Pinochet.....Saddam Hussein....General Suharto. The list
goes on.....and it is a big list.

This really creeped me out. Just last night I was deciding what film I wanted to watch and was scrolling through all the films I had recorded on freeview and hadnt gotten around to watching in the last year, and "The Iron Lady was one of them"

So I started watching the first 40 minutes last night.... woke up this morning... then saw the news and she was dead.

However, this film had sat recorded and untouched on my freeview box since the summer of last year. And only last night I decided to start watching it...

When I got up and saw the new I had to do a double-take,

This was one of the more bizarre/coincidental things that has happened to me recently.

Still haven't watched the rest of it yet though... may do so later.
