1 slam between them, & that was 6 yrs ago.  Has to be the weakest goddam
USO field ever.

Or the strongest winner for many decades.

Hmm - let's see. Either 'all' players in an era where tennis is more
widely played than ever have suddenly become rubbish, or 'one' player
of exceptional ability  has emerged to dominate. I wonder which is
more likely...

:-)

Some years ago Todd Martin and another ranked player came to practice
at a nearby tennis centre. Some of our club's young guns were playing
on an adjacent court. In response to the site of Martin et.al. they
upped their heavy hitting to match what they saw from the pros, and
indeed they did match it....but the balls were flying everywhere.
Metres long, into the next court, anywhere but in play.

So let's see how many of the heavy hitters can hit 'into' court often
enough over 5 sets!

Can not be your theory of one exceptional player since he's getting his
ass handed to him by Nadal and junkballing Murray.
Another argument is subjective, concerning level of play of this one
player...which quite often is not high.

That would then make Rafa goat or 2nd best ever - man we're lucky we
have the top 2 players playing right now - what are the odds?

Interesting question.

I'd say odd would be that we have greatest of all time playing right now
around 1/20.
That would make odds for 2 of the all time greatest playing _right now_
around 1/400.

However odds for 2 greatest players playing the same time at _any time
in history_ would still be around 1/20.

But what would be the odds for greatest of all time getting constant
beatings from his closest rival?

About same as 60:ies when there were Laver,Rosewall and Gonzales same
time at Pro Circuit (all those names are in GOAT/wouldacouldashoulda
GOAT discussions).

About same as late 70:ies when we had Borg/Connors same time + tier 2
Mac/Lendl entered in the mix (Borg is definitely in GOAT discussions
and even someone like Bud "senile" Collins had Connors as GOAT until
Sampras.

Sampras is of course in GOAT discussions and Agassi is *not* that far
off. Had Agassi won 2 of his Sampras USO final clashes....

...and then again Nadal still has "only" six slams. Makes him tier3.
Far from GOAT...

If you want strange odds never seen before/later it is 80:ies. There
were some instances late 80:ies when Lendl/Mac/Connors/Wilander/Becker/
Edberg/Agassi all of them expect one (all three: Mac/Connors/Agassi
never were in top10 same time)  were *IN TOP10* and they all ended up
with 6-8 slams...

Put Federer in the mix and he would have had 5 slams tops.

Fed only wins slams these days(USO 2008, RG 2009) when he does not
face Nadal in the final. GOAT my ass.

Haha...still peddling your weak arguments wee man?

Lets take a quick survey of recent work. Hmmm...now Nadal got his ass handed
to him at Madrid....by who was it again? And Nadal was too pants to make it
to his own tournament final at RG...which in turn was won by Fed beating in
straight sets the chump who took him out.

Which of them feels like they are holding their own ass right now. Hmm?
