Actually, I saw that on TTC. However, it was the combination of the top 2 complaining along with many of the lower tier players.

No need for the tears. Looks like the ATP just agreed with Rafa and
Djokster:

"... there were clearly issues with the quality of the courts in Madrid
this year, which were not acceptable."

Yes... it was too tough for Djokovic and Rafa... not adaptable enough
games/mentalities I guess... better to change it back so they can
compete...

Well, you know how it is. Grass tuneups for a grass slam, ... you get
the drift.

I called ages ago that ATP would have nochoice but to go back to
orange clay if Rafa/Djoker + so many others were unhappy with it.
However, Court_1 and others insisted that this was not a possibility
at all, and that the ATP would just tell the players to shut it.

Yes... it's a good development that the players have influence over
all... if the elites don't like it... well, it changes... the rank and
file don't have a voice, so it comes down to the Nole's, Rafa's, Feds,
Murray's, Tsonga types... majority, in this case, ruled! :))

Obviously it was pretty clear that they can't go on with blue clay,
with almost all the players strongly against it.

So it looks like Nadal will remain goat on red clay, and Federer goat
on blue clay. Pretty equal historical achievements  :-)

Yes, I figured at that point that the viewing audience would prefer
the blue clay on tv in terms of visibility and that would be enough
economic incentive to win out, but the problems with the blue clay in
Madrid were too numerous and too many players complained including the
elite players who bring in the money.

In addition, the stands in Madrid looked half empty for much of that
tournament and with everything going on in Spain now with their
economy, this is the last thing the Madrid tournament needed.  If they
could have at least had the slipperiness issue worked out beforehand,
the color change would have been a good idea, but, too many factors
were negative and the tournament directors did not prepare well enough
for all of the changes. They should have had all of the difficulties
ironed out way before they did. It's too bad because I preferred the
visibility of the blue clay on tv. :(
