Del Potro in trouble losing his sport for Shanghai

Wouldn't THAT be ironic, he has played so well lately, maybe the best
after Federer / Murray
and yet he could still lose out to Blake / Tsonga for the last spot

he's currently 7th. If Blake wins his semi he will pass Del Potro and
if....Tsonga or Nalbandian win the tournament he's out of the race

is sure hope Del Potro makes it he deserves it more than say Blake or
Davydenko...

Why? He did nothing for the first two-thirds of the year.

The only players who "deserve" to qualify are the ones who have
already done it - anyone else who is close obviously hasn't played
well enough for the whole year to have their place booked already.

Blake is in the same half than Tsonga, so the only for Del Potro not te be qualified is than Nalbandian beats Blake in the final.
Both Tsonga and Nalbandian can not finish before Del Potro because they both need to win the tournament.

I thought someone said Nalbandian wasn't going to Shanghai no matter
what happened as he wanted to concentrate on DC final - maybe I
imagined that?

According to my computations:

Del Potro: 369pts
Simon: 356pts
Blake: 355pts (semi), 380 (final), 410 (victory)
Nalbandian: 320pts (semi), 345 (final), 375 (victory)
Tsonga: 315pts (quarter), 335pts (semi), 360 (final), 390 (victory)

Simon won't qualify if Blake or Tsonga reaches the final (so at least Roddick has win his next two matches to give Simon a chance), or if Nalbandian wins the tournament
Del Potro is not qualified if Nalbandian beats Blake on sunday

Blake can qualify by reaching the final.
Tsonga can qualify by meeting Davydenko in the final, or beating Nalbandian.
Nalbandian has to win the tournament to qualify.

That's raw & true.
And the same can be said for Simon.
I'd like a lot more Tsonga to qualify: he had to beat Roddick and
reach the final (at least) in order to. He kept his fate in his hands
for longer than Gilles.
Anyway, near top ten, including Del Potro, shouldn't consider
themselves on vacation, for top players just might gave up, or miss
the plane!

What if Nadal wasn't that much faking injury (Bercy's crowd should
have boooed him so much more, he even smiled while talking to the
doc...)?
Even if he was totally faking, what's his own priority? TMC or DC
final?
Same for Nalby, what does he want more?
He has allready won TMC, and just might consider DC final as a quite
unique opportunity.
What if Federer was to consider himself as not enough competitive,
would he enter the TMC anyway?

Share & Enjoy,
Manolo

Tonight's newspaper articles say Blake qualifies if he beats Tsonga; Tsonga
qualifies if he beat Blake, and Nalbandian loses in the semis.

Not true - Denko.

I'm thinking about the good old days 10 years ago when Carlos Moya
beat Alex Corretja in the YEC final - no mugs qualified in those
days ...

I did. I thought he'd take it easy, play himself into form but not
exaclty kill himself, saving himself for the DC.

Looks like he't taking longer than I thought to get into form :D

???
Do you think that only on his 08 results, Nikolay should have his trip
to Shanghai granted?
He has won one MS, but if IIRC, he's done worst than last year at
slams... So his rank had to suffer from this.
If your answer to initial question is "yes", than blame the ranking
system and it's 365day to day basis.

Good to see Thin Dave reach the final.  Let's hope he plays Tsonga, so
that there's actually a YEC spot on the line.
