Will Federer win a Grand Slam next season?
Roger Federer's best tennis is behind him but having said that, the
Swiss Maestro is still ranked third on tour and he's within a stone's
throw of second. Top spot definitely appears out of reach as Rafael
Nadal has three Slams and three Masters series titles keeping him well
on top of those who are chasing him.
Paddy Power have a proposition open on Federer for 2011 in which their
site members can back or lay Federer depending on whether or not they
think he will win a Slam in 2011:
?Yes he will: -137 (about 5/7)
?No he won't: EVEN odds
The NO side should definitely be taking in more bets right now as
Federer is having increasingly more trouble surviving the field just
to get to the point in the draw where he might face Nadal.
The question isn't just whether or not Roger Federer can beat Rafael
Nadal in a five set match at this point (he can't) but whether Federer
can actually survive the field of players to get to Nadal.
If Robin Soderling, Tomas Berdych, and Novak Djokovic are going to
start getting their***s in against Federer - in big time matches -
then Federer is going to have trouble just getting to a heads up
situation against the world number 1.
Take the NO side in this proposition. While Federer is still playing
great tennis, the sun appears to have set on his Grand Slam winning
form and that will be clear when Melbourne concludes.
