Seles: Doing her Best in Hard Times

Seles: Doing her Best in Hard Times

This is the headline in the front page of the Sports section of the
Sunday's edition of the Washington Post.
"Selles has not being home since early May.She will not go home until the
start of October, after she completes the Us Open and fulfills long
standing commitments to participate in tournaments in Japan."
Monica was asked why she was playing like a madman despite all that is
happening in her life. " The answer was simple. Tennis is fun. Tennis makes
her smile. And, knowing that Karolj Seles has told his daughter to go on
with her life, he has told her to stay out there and play.
One unexpected source of comfort, and inspiration,is Pete Sampras.
Sampra's coach, Tim Gullikson, died of brain cancer las season. He knows
what it feels like to lose someone you love and depend on, someone who is
linked to both your life and your game. The two sat together at a
basketball game earlier this season. Sampras talked,Seles listened. It helped.
It is a very good and long coverage of Seles and her father's battle with
terminal cancer.
Good luck to you Monica in the US Open. Monica and Martina are my favorite
players so I do not care who wins the Open, as long as is one of them ;-).

Good post.
I hope the people who have been so quick to knock Monica for pulling
out of Atlanta, read it.

Bright Blessings,

I really feel for Monica, too.  I'm glad she has an outlet for her
emotions, and I have to say I'd like her to win the Open. No knock on
Hingis, but Monica is my sentimental favorite.
