question about second week at the US Open

Post by Laurence Smit » Sun, 02 Sep 2007 07:00:03

Hi,
My wife and I live in upstate NY and each year we usually get grounds
passes and visit the open during the first week.
This year we are going this coming Tuesday and have seats in the upper
deck of Ashe Stadium.
How much activity might there be on the side courts now that half of
the tournament will have been played?

TIA

There should still be quite a bit of doubles, and especially juniors.  I
don't know how interested you are in watching the juniors, although some
of them do go on to great things: the commentators mentioned during the
Henman/Tsonga match that Tsonga played Baghdatis in the Boys' final four
or five years ago.

Thanks.
I enjoy watching doubles every bit as much as singles so that should be
fine.
Probably won't go out of my way to watch the juniors however.

Maybe Santoro will still be out there playing doubles.  Saw him a few
years ago playing with Navratilova.  He's a hoot.

I went yesterday (Monday), and there was ONE women's doubles match on
the side courts.  Everything else was juniors, all day.  It was a
little disappointing when I saw the schedule... although the Blake-
Haas match made it okay in the end.

I did find it interesting that seeded juniors tend to lose a lot in
the first round.  Not sure why.
