pretty boring match. Djoker getting ready for clay season in Boise,
Idaho... facing big serving Americans on fast indoor hard, on altitude.
Also watched some of Tsonga-Berlocq battle. Tsonga won in five. Love
watching Tsonga on clay, the way he gets better on the stuff each year
and seems pretty committed to learn playing on it. Tsonga seems to be
playing a lot on DC clay in recent times. Good practice for clay court
season, fine court itself and Berlocq being an experienced clay
specialist and a great fighter when in the mood. Good match.
Tsonga needs to improve his slide to forehand still, did few almost
Rafa-like backhand passed dtl. He seems to have somewhat adopted
Rafa-like return of serve, high and deep, like the claycourters do. Also
he seems more patient on clay than elsewhere, not pulling the trigger
too early. His last service game did show though that the package is not
yet complete, trying to serve for aces and nearly losing his serve...
now a true claycourter might have elected to make sure of the first
serve...and finishing it with Tsonga's forehand...
Tsonga played a DC tie on clay at Monte Carlo the last year. And in 2011
on a Spanish bullring in Spain. He's improved a bit since then I think.
