i think Blake goes from one extreme to another

It's either mostly winners or mostly errors i.e. first two sets last
night consisted of the former whereas the 3rd and 4th sets saw him hit
loads of the latter. Blake got as far as he did at the USO by playing
aggressive tennis with minimal errors. The question is: was this just a
one-off occurence or will he be able to do this tournament after
tournament. For his sake, I'd hope the answer is Yes because it's the
only was I can see him making the top 10. Otherwise this USO  will
represent  Blake's version of the hypothetical freak week were all of
Gonzo's shots "land in" and he takes out Fed.

We'll see...

I think Blake has more command of his game now. Even thoughhe plays
high risk. He still has alot of control on the forehand side. I think
this U.S. Open series will set a foundation for Blake. And he will
build from his loss. He is a different player. And I expect him to move
up the rankings to the top 20 in a years time.

Blake impressed me with his games.  His 3rd and 4th sets did reminded
me of his old ways though: mindless banging.  He was going for too much
when things got tough.  He may learn from this and become a better
player.

Unlikely.  He's peaking right now, & will settle back to his normal
level next yr.....

Considering this year's been a comeback year, I'd say he's finding his
normal level.

He should be at the very least a regular in the quarters on hard courts,
with a fighting chance there.

Yes, but I wouldn't be surprised if this USO transpired to be a
one-off; the pinacle of his career.

He's 25, & there must be a reason he's never progressed beyond 3rd rd of
a slam before....

That's exactly my thinking- even before the injury he was no more than
a solid top 20 or 30 player.

that's what he was before; his game has improved since his return, esp. on
the mental side, i.e. not panicking*  that said I can't see him as more than
top 15.

* except when realizing he's about to straight set AA in US quarters
