I can't watch the match, but the stats and score are showing he is
being out-played!

Fed is cruising. I wish he wouldn't do that ! But, he is. He will pull it out in
the end but it's not easy on his fans and a dangerous way to play.

Falla was serving for the first set, also he had 5 BP while Federer
had one only that he managed to convert to save the set.
Federer had 20 winners and 20 UE in the first set, while Falla had 14
winners and 8UE.

They both won 41 points in the first set.

Fed played awful and still won the set. Mental giant.

Federer is 'taking care of business' and using the opportunity to
practice his drop shots, while Falla is playing near his best. Federer
has several gears left, and used them to break back.

He isn't entirely comfortable, though, and is shouting with success on
critical points, which is a sign it is closer than he would ideally
like.

The operative phrase in that sentence is, of course, "in the end."

Like he always does - except against Nadal.

No big deal:
+Falla playing agressive & clean
+Lots of wind & rain delays
+Federer playing "effective": when it counts the most.
=
Federer leading 7/6 6/2
rain delay again, this time they covered the Chartier.

An excellent workout for Fed. Since he's had
so little match practice, it's important for him
to get quality workouts. Both had more W
than UE (36:34 for Fed, 24: 20 for Falla),
meaning it was a quality match. He was in
control after winning the 1st (which was a
real fight) and tried out a number of things
    against a quality opponent.

Agreed...a very useful second match. Some awesome stuff....some stuff to
work on.

++ Far from it... Fed hits soooooo many of his errors early in
games... when it comes down to the last points of a game he just
rifles them off... I'm beginning to see Feds statistics differently
now... much like Rafa... some of his errors are when he's 30-love up
or 40-15up... so, not the same as just hitting the ball all over the
place... and Federer was obviously trying out shots at times today,
much as in his opener... when he needed to lock down he did...

++ Right... but when Fed had to stiffen up and win the points he did,
almost in a flurry... that break of serve was almost classic Federer
and the breaker was very solid... if not spectacular... then the
second set was some of the old Federer, hitting some outrageous
winners... did you see the match, if you did then this is all just
repeats for you... nice to hear the crowds GASP at a Fed champagne
special...

++ BUT some real mental and technical resistence to a guy playing very
well... a month ago that would have been a 5 setter...
