ESP - KAZ
Defending champs open 2012 in Oviedo sin Nadal y Ferrer; expect no
heroics from Kukushkin

AST - RUSS
Bogomolov debuts in Wien for Russland

CAN - FRA
In Vancouver. Wise choice not to play in Quebec.

SWI - USA
Fed and Fish in Fribourg.

CZE - ITA
In Ostrava (Lendl Land)

SRB - SWE
Sweden, sans Sod, brings weakest team in World Group to Nis, Serbia.

JPN - CRO
Hyogo hosts; could be a tossup tie if Nishi gets out of the blocks
well.

GER- ARG
In Bamberg. Stadium will *not* be named Islas Malvinas.

That should be a real tough one for Fed on clay yet! (sarcasm)

Even the strategy of "beat Stan twice and win the doubles" might be a
longshot. USA are short one Bryan brother. Wonder who Courier will
pick for the doubles. If Stan disappoints it can still be a close one.

Steve Coogan, long lost Kukushkin twin, does Caine's 'You were only
supposed ...' again and again in http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1740047/
- recommended, now on DVD.

At the Sampras-Raonic exo I sat next to a Quebecois, who traveled by
train (5 hrs, one way) and was leaving early next morning. 'You came
to see Pete, right ?'. 'I came to see Raonic firstly' was the quick
answer.

He was very informed on Dubois and the girls' game in general. We
touched the mixed format for the Rogers Cup and he launched into the
politics of how Quebec is being robbed of influence from the top.
We also talked a bit about the DC tie with France going to Vancouver
and I asked him the obvious question. He was very vehement denying any
pro-France support in Quebec, and I have to say he seemed more than
sincere.

I would have hosted the tie in Montreal. Patrick ?

Interesting to hear the Quebecois perspective. Since the men were in
Montreal in 2011, his position won't be tested (at least in the Raonic
case) any time soon. Maybe Montreal will get the nod in the second
round if Canada upset France.
