Men's V Women's tennis - Thoughts

Well the French Open has outlined the clear state of men's and women's
tennis.

Firstly the women. The new breed has really got me back into women's
tennis and it's fun seeing the old guard fight to keep these young
guns off their heels! (Sanchez V Serena Williams at the French was
apparently spiteful as!) Hingis, Kournikova, Williams sisters and
lucic really have taken the tennis world by storm, but Sanchez,
Martinez, Novotna et al want to show there still have something left!
I see Davenport as a half way house (sorry Lindsay) She is neither old
guard or new breed, but has really come along in the last year, quite
quietly actually.

Now Men's tennis, what a mess! All the top players are playing crap!
and there are no clearly defined new stars, just players playing well
for the odd week. We will never again see the consistent rivalries at
the top of the men's game like Mac V Borg V Connors and Edbeg V becker
V Lendl.

In those days the top seed (at least 75% of them) regularyl got to the
q-finals of the slams. Now we are lucky if one makes it!

This truly sux! I hope Wimbledon and the USO provide some top level
matchups
