Winning Titles Without Losing A Set

Rafael Nadal reminded the tennis world of his clay-court supremacy in
2012, winning three titles at Monte-Carlo, Barcelona and Rome without
the loss of a set. Novak Djokovic was also able to win an ATP World Tour
Masters 1000 title with a clean slate over six matches, retaining his
title in Miami.

Player  Sets Won        Tournament
Milos Raonic    8       San Jose (four wins)
David Ferrer    10      Acapulco
Roger Federer   10      Dubai
Novak Djokovic  12      Miami
Rafael Nadal    10      Monte-Carlo
Rafael Nadal    10      Barcelona
Juan Martin del Potro   8       Estoril (four wins)
Rafael Nadal    10      Rome
Nicolas Almagro 8       Nice (four wins)
Marin Cilic     8       Umag (four wins)
Sam Querrey     8       Los Angeles (four wins)
Roger Federer   10      Cincinnati

Rafa didn't lose a set at MC, Barcelona or Rome... yet he did lose one
set at RG final. Joe thinks that's a sure sign of decline.
Then again Joe also thinks that ranking Emerson above Rosewall is credible.

Yet he still number 4 in the ranking, also maybe he should have lose some sets instead of going 100 percent for bullshit title.

Interestingly this text (ATP's or yours?) forgets to mention that
Federer also won a Masters title without losing a set in Cincinnati,
as the table shows.

Quote:

Interestingly titles fith four wins are mentioned in the table, but no
mention that Djokovic was the only one who won six matches.

What's so "interesting" with it?

Obviously Rafa is mentioned because he won most tournaments without
losing a set... And Djoker because he's #1 and ATP wants to promote him
at all costs. (But people are still not buying it)

So what really is interesting is them mentioning Djoke.

The only reason Rafa won those clay titles let alone straight set is
because Nole had some major family issues during that time and
even terrible weather especially in Rome and RG. As a Nole fan,
I am not taking anything out of those matches.

Yeah, that's why Rafa has ruled clay for 8 years... weather and Nole's
family issues.

Every one has their time. Nole won clear matches in 2011 and something
like
that usually turns things around. It's funny how you can be critical
of Fed and then
expect Rafa to defy the odds or to be *** forever.

Madrid is Rafa's worst clay event by far... Rome is 2nd worst. And Rafa
trashed Nole in latter event this year. Don't expect Nole to take MC or
RG any time soon.

It didn't, Rafa won 7-1 sets on clay against ND in 2012.

I believe it when I see it. I agree with you that Nole is the biggest
threat to Rafa on clay though. But it may not happen.

So much for taking an emphatic stand on this matter.

Fence sitting, much?
