Only 4 players have won 3 FO in open era - Borg, Lendl, Wilander and
Kuerten.

Just proves how difficult it is.

Federer seems to be dominating all the other surfaces, clay is the only
question mark now.

The only "dud" is Kuerten. The rest are certifiable greats.

He'll be lucky to win just one French Open title.  He's got a guy named
Nadal to beat and I don't think it will happen.

Fed couldn't have achieved much more in the last 2 yrs.

Hmm, looking at those names it just makes FO champs look foolish by
comparison (Gaudio/Costa etc)....

Federer will never dominate on clay - the slow surface negates supreme
tennis skill and usually it's the guy who's fittest and wants it most
who wins. But when you look at the number of slams won with soft draws
(especially at RG) it will be surprising if he doesn't pick up one FO
title somewhere along the line.

He wont have to be lucky, just not unlucky. If Nadal plays Federer
next year in the final of the French, hell be the one feeling more
pressure and expactation, unlike this year.

No, Nadal can win FO in his sleep.  He choked a little this yr as it was
his 1st time & big expectations given his tune-up form, but still won
convincingly.

A Nadal v Fed FO final would indeed be mouth watering prospect for fans
- but expect a 6-2 6-3 6-2 type rout....  Fed simply can't hurt Nadal on
clay as his talent is nullified by the slow surface...

I dont expect any type of root. I suspect Federer will dramatically
claim the career slam next year by beating the greatest clayplayer in
the final.

That surely is wishful thinking.  Fed won't be able to hit enough
winners over 5 sets on clay.  Nadal is 5 yrs younger & has way more
stamina....

I watched some highlights of his 5 hr win v Coria in Italian Open final,
& he was upper-cutting & leaping in the air in 5th set t/b.  Looked like
he could go another 5 hrs easily....

Hardly in his sleep. A huge physical effort will be required for him to
overcome the top bumrooters in the later stages (a la the 5 hour clay
match with Coria). It's the retriever game remember - it's not about
gifted shotmaking - if he drops his guard or relaxes he's toast. He
might beat Coria in 3 sets at RG next year but it would take an awfully
long time.

I don't think Federer would win quite so easily.
